Tanning Booth started skin troubles

My boyfriend, who is now in his 60's, began using tanning booths some years ago, prior to going for winter vacations in the Caribbean. Since then he has developed a rash on his arms and legs that never goes away. Red scaly patches, almost looks like psoriasis, but is not. He won't go to a dermatologist, and his family doctor is not too interested. But we'd like to know if others have developed something like this after using tanning booths?
