Hi Hilldon. Any generic brand I have purchased has worked as well as the brand name. The only difference is the price.
I have always purchase brand medication, but lately i am a bit short on money and really can't afford brand anymore can someone please tell me if the generic medication works as good as the brand medication?

^Yes, exactly!
If the generic brand has (X) milligrams of (Y) compound, it will work exactly the same as a more expensive name brand that contains (X) milligrams of (Y) compound. With bigger companies, you pay more because of the increased advertising and the prestige they peddle. It's just a marketing gimmick.
The only time a company has a monopoly over something is if they have a patent on a particular chemical. I can't really think of one of these from the top of my head, though. But with the rate technology is going, I'm sure there are a few. And if there aren't, there will be eventually.
Generic products are available when the original development patent has expired. This opens the market for other companies to make the product. A generic product must contain the same active ingredient and meet the same standard in strength, dosage, etc
If you want to go for good thing or brand, then you have to pay more price.
