    Default Nail issue

    Hi guys!

Well, I seem to of had this problem for as long as I can remember and have always thought it to be perfectly normal, but on occasion people do often like to point it out that it's a bit strange.

My nails look fine from a distance but on closer inspection, the ends/tips of my nails seem to be in layers and often peel off. They're not smooth and even, like everyone else's nails I know.
I also have ridges across my nails, not on every finger, but they tend to be vertical and on my thumbs they appear horizontal.

I hope this is just a small problem that can be rectified and I don't fancy going to a Doctor just for my nails.
So if anyone has any advice it would be gladly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    L.

Vertical ridges are absolutely normal and is very common. It doesn't indicate any illness and is just due to aging. However, horizontal ridges sometimes may be the indication of some illness, but not always. Most commonly there may be interruption of nail growth due to nail matrix injury or nutritional deficiency that causes horizontal ridges and are usually harmless. Peeling off the nails may be due to long-term exposure to nail polish or some nutritional deficiencies. Besides these, certain systemic illness also causes horizontal ridges (especially when it is associated with depression, clubbing, thickening, brittle or any other deformities), so it wise to visit a dermatologist and confirm the cause.

Use a good nail strengthener polish to protect thin nails while a good vitamin supplement to strengthen them as well. Also, keep your nails well moisturized all the day and away from chemicals and soap by wearing gloves when working around water.

Use always good quality of nail color cheap and low quality may be harmful for your nails and can cause problems.
