Some simple skin care tips to Treat Your Psoriasis at Home

Take care of your skin, and keep your skin moist.
Reduce stress. Psoriasis is significantly aggravated by stress.
Avoid injuring the skin. This aggravates psoriasis.
Avoid exposure to cold. This also aggravates psoriasis.
Keep your skin from drying out. Dry skin causes psoriasis to worsen.
Avoid washing your skin excessively. This makes skin feel sore and scaly. Use lukewarm water when washing.
Reduce itching by soaking for 15 minutes in water containing a tar solution or Epsom salts.
Remove thick scalp plaques by applying a 10 percent salicylic acid in mineral oil with a toothbrush before going to bed. Wear a shower cap when you sleep. Wash out the 10 percent acid with a tar-based shampoo the next morning.

rachel i think tht the washing routine and the stress is right about psoriasis but i can't imagine making a 10% salicylic acid with mineral oil on my scalp. i used to use the neutrogena salicylic acid shampoo and this made my head sore. right now i am using a shampoo without sls in it and it seems to have controled my scales on my scalp. i wash in warm water not hot and use a netting scrubber to smoothe away my scales on my back. i use dial yogart/vanilla and honey body wash. it helps keep my back from drying out so much. then i apply rosehips and hibiscus cream. this is not getting rid of my psoriasis but it is controling it.

I'm glad you found what works for you, salicylic acid can cause reactions to sensitive skin. Everyone's skin is different but listening to your body is one of the best guide to see what works for you.

Skin care at home can help control psoriasis include using creams or lotions, pills, baths or soaks, and ultraviolet (UV) light.
Take care of your skin, and keep your skin moist.
Keep your nails trimmed to prevent the spread of psoriasis or flare-ups.
    Quit Smoking.
The ultraviolet light found in sunlight is a proven treatment for psoriasis, but sunburns can make psoriasis worse. Cover unaffected skin with a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, and start with some limited sun exposure.

We can also try one of the natural remedies available on the Internet (just google "natural treatment of psoriasis") and take your pick. Some of them do actually work. For my psor. I use Life cell cream quite successfully. It takes just a couple of weeks to clear the spots and they then stay clear for months on end.

Eliminate red meat and fatty foods and use sensitive skin moisturizers.
