    Default Tendon damage?

OK I know this is a skin care forum but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about under the skin, namely tissue and tendon damage?
I put a 2inch nail into the pad of my big toe yesterday. It was only the fact I had boots on which prevented the nail going right through my foot. It went in with maximum pressure and went in fully.
I have had a tetanus booster recently and I have antibiotics so that isn't my concern. My concern is that other than obviously being very painful, I have pretty much no movement in my toes. I can move them so I am not thinking bone damage but only ever so slightly so wondered if there were tendons around that area I could have damaged or whether its just tissue damage that needs time to heal.
Anyone have any knowledge on this?

ouch, nikki!!! i thought i was the only clutz on the board!!! the big toe helps balance and helps you to walk. yes there are tendons in the toe. if i were you i would see a foot doctor. or go to the emergency room. tell them when you had your last tetanus shot and let them exray it. you didn't say exactly on your toe where the nail went but please try to see a doctor. a foot doctor would be the best because he would know just what was damaged. sorry i couldn't help more, hugs and blessings.

I don't know anything about the foot but I can remember when my boyfriend badly damaged his ligaments in his lower left leg, he had to have X-Rays and was told to stay off it for a few days and keep it well iced with ice bags. I can only assume your treatment will be similar to this.
But really I just wanted to say get better soon! xx

Thanks for the replies. Brenda, I could trip over nothing if it got in my way. ;)
Our system works different here. If I go to A&E I could be there for 5+ hours just for them to say its nothing go and rest so don't want to waste time. But I don't want to leave it too long if there is damage that could lead to permanent restriction in movement.
I did see my practice nurse who cleaned the wound and gave me antibiotics and she said it will be painful for a while but at that time (about 2 hours after I done it) it wasn't so painful. Its only painful now when any amount of pressure is applied. Generally if I'm sitting with my foot raised there isn't any, although I am taking painkillers so I guess they are helping. I am more concerned by the depth of the wound.
The pics show the location, if it helps anyone.

Added note: The puncture site is 4mm.

nikki, i thought you meant your big toe. this is on the ball of your foot. i think you will be okay. i am glad your practice nurse saw it and cleaned it up. it is going to hurt for a while. a puncture wound always hurts more than a cut. keep your foot raised as much as you can. that way you stay off of it. take the antibiotic until it is gone. cleanse the wound morning and night. try not to get an infection in the wound that is why i said stay on the antibiotics. i am sure you will be fine. i trip over my own feet. we make a good pair!!lol.

Bend your toe downward and flex your foot down and up.. if u can do that.. you are good with tendons, looks like the nail have missed the bone.. there might be minor injury in the tendons which will heal in time don't worry, there are two tendons running around those areas flexor hallucis brevis and flexor hallucis longus tendon. Yup if there is severe swelling u sure must visit the doctor. take advice as brenda said. keep ur foot elevated and make sure there no infection as foot are prone to infection. keep it clean, take antibiotics, i guess it will be ok.

Thanks. My apologies for not describing the location properly. When I done it I felt very nauseas but was in a situation where I had to carry on with what I was doing. I put a padded bandage on it which I keep in the car (I was away from home) then when I got home I went to see the nurse. Before taking the photos I hadn't looked at it again as I can still feel it entering the foot when I think about it and still feel very nauseas and thought it went in more towards the big toe.
I can now at least put my foot flat on the floor although when that foot takes full weight I have to walk on my heal.
It was the size of the nail and the pressure it went in that made me fear damage and as the wound is deep I obviously can't see what was done.

Brenda, I use a recycle site and I was collecting wood for my open fire. The house I went to was only around 5/6 miles away and the wood was from an old shed. I was making a start and my father was following on to help mainly for the extra space in his car so we could clear it in one trip. I stepped onto a board to reach the planks at the back and stepped on the nail full pressure. I had to get it bandaged and carry on as though nothing had happened as I knew my dad would send me away to get it seen to and finish off by himself. As he is just over 70 I couldn't do this to him so didn't tell him until we got back home and both cars had been unloaded. It was only after I finished that it hit home what I'd done and the pain kicked in.
Some may say amazing, others may say stupid.
    Thanks again.
