It is important to choose the right soap for skin some soaps may claim to be natural or herbal but may in fact contain chemicals and harmful ingredients.
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, This is a great water-soluble facial cleanser. It's mild enough to be used on dry or eczematous skin, and it doesn't contain any fragrances that can be irritating. This cleanser is a lotion that doesn't lather, and it rinses off well without a washcloth. It doesn't remove makeup well, but most people with dry skin don't wear a lot of makeup.
Hello Dermatalk members,
I strongly feel that soaps with the fewest ingredients are usually best for the skin. My name is Greg and I am new to this board but I hope to become an active member and participate in whatever way I can. I suffer from sensitive skin and many soaps cause me to itch throughout the day.
Given the economic situation the US (and the world for that matter) is in, and my friends' and my attempts to find better jobs, we decided to start a worker cooperative that produces bar soap. Our soaps are incredibly mild and we're trying to get the word out. We only ship to the US currently but hopefully that will change soon. Our website is [URL under review]. We currently donate 10% of our profits to helping other people start worker cooperatives and to grow the worker cooperative movement. I'm looking forward to becoming a more active member on this board and learning about and sharing my own skin issues.
One should not use soap on their face. I checked out your web site and you do not list all of your ingredients that you use in your soap. I am assuming you are making soap with lye, etc.
Your soaps look good but they are not unique and I would not call them 'incredibly mild'. It appears you are only using olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil in your soaps. I would suggest if you want to make milder soaps you use other oils.
Please refrain from spamming this site with your products.
Hey Y34963,
I will refrain from posting spam on this forum. However, I do feel that I need to address your comments. We have listed all of our ingredients on our website I am not sure how you missed this. Our base ingredients are Saponified Olive Oil, Saponified Coconut Oil, Saponified Avocado Oil, and Water. For our scented soaps we add essential oil of the plant and that is also listed for each respective product on our website. That is all we put in to our soaps.
Yes all soap requires Lye to make but no Lye is left in the soap after the oils have saponified. The majority of our soap is made from olive oil, and I would disagree that you need other oils to make it more mild, I would like to see some proof for you to make that claim. Mildness is determined by how much lye to fat you add and our soaps are about between 8-9% super-fatted. Which means we add about 8-9% extra oil then needed to produce soap. This produces a softer bar which is also gentler on the skin.
I am not sure what you mean by our soaps not being unique but I can say that they do not have any artificial colorings or fragrances, stiffeners, or detergents and that is the point. Also if you read more about us or check out our blog you'll see that we're more than a soap company we're trying to rebuild the American economy cooperatively. You can visit the international cooperative alliance or the Network of Bay Area Worker Cooperatives for more information about what that means, or follow our blog.
No need to address my comments. I expect that since you have been told not to spam this site with your products we will not be hearing much from you. I am not going to debate your soaps. I have been making my own soaps for a very long time and know exactly what you are trying to do. As far as your company's mission, that has nothing to do with this site. If you think you can rebuild the American economy cooperatively, then good luck with that.
Depending on your condition and the sensitivity of your skin, herbal soaps can be very effective. Body natural soap and glycerin soap have been known for good results. A moisturizing soap that has natural and herbal ingredients should be included to get the best results.
