moisturize the skin, lower your stress levels if you can. easier said than done. pamper yourself. take vitamin d3.
Step 1
Figure out why you're skin is flaring up. Stress, a change in diet, beauty products or makeup, or even close contact with harsh cleaning fluids such as detergent or dish washing liquids can cause eczema outbreaks.
Step 2
Eliminate products with cheap, harmful ingredients from your selves and medicine cabinets. Formaldehyde, used in many cosmetics, triggers eczema flare-ups in many patients. Polyethylene Glycol, a common ingredient in cleaning products, contributes to outbreaks. Mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrances and isopropyl alcohol also cause eczema flare-ups and may cause headaches and dizziness as well.
Step 3
Choose a high-quality emollient. Herbal brands in lotion, cream, oil or ointment form work best without harming sensitive tissue. Ingredients like shea butter, emu oil and oatmeal soothe the skin naturally, so look for these names on product labels. Aveeno, Eucerin and Cetaphil make over-the-counter lotions, creams and baths for eczema prone skin.
Step 4
Prevent eczema from the inside. Buy fish oil capsules, zinc, Vitamin A and Vitamin B complex capsules and take them on a regular basis. By providing your body with anti-inflammatory agents and increasing circulation, these vitamins and supplements will increase your resistance to flare-ups.
Step 5
Avoid stress. Don't let trivial things bother you. Meditate or practice breathing exercises. Read positive quotes and self-help books. A good attitude will help your body as well as your mind and prevent eczema flare-ups.
Step 6
Stay out of the sun. Direct sunlight aggravates eczema, so stay out of the sun when you can. If you must go out in the sun, cover up with a hat.
Step 7
Improve your diet. Allergic reactions to foods like shellfish, cow's milk, eggs and soy cause eczema in some people. Consult your dermatologist to ascertain what foods in your diet may be adding to your problems. A healthy diet high in Vitamins A and B and full of fruits and vegetables will cut down on skin breakouts.
If you find that you have a swollen red skin that definitely means you are suffering from an acute eczema. There is no known cure for eczema; therefore, treatments aim to control the symptoms by reducing inflammation and relieving itching.
Apply a mixture of 1 teaspoon camphor and 1 teaspoon sandalwood paste on the rashes. Apply nutmeg paste to the affected areas. Put natural vitamin E on the affected skin, it will relieve you of itching. Zinc taken orally and applied directly on the affected skin is effective. Both shark cartilage and lotion of blueberry leaves reduce inflammation. Use pine tar soap to wash the affected skin. Drink tomato juice daily, it will cure the symptoms in a few days.
From what I understand you should stay away from medications and chemicals. As far as a natural way I would say keep the area well hydrated by moisturizing it at least twice a day, preferably morning and night by using Emollient. An emollient is oilier than a lotion or cream in consistency keeping the area moisturized a lot longer. Its best if you store it in the fridge so that when you put it on your skin it is cool and brings relief.
Another natural way is to take an oatmeal bath. Oatmeal calms inflamed skin, you can use porridge oaks and add it to lukewarm water. I hear that Aveeno sells a pretty good one for oat baths exactly for eczema that is already made just pour into the tub.
dr.washington, good answer. i believe that using steroids is not good for the skin either. sometimes though it is necessary to use the topical steroids to control the worst breakouts. keep the area moisturized. see if you are allergic to any food. this will take time but worth the effort. stress is a major factor. stress is a factor in most autoimmune diseases. learn to relax. deep breaths, and do something you enjoy at least once a day.
Prevention, boosting your immune and regular use of moisturizers may be the natural way.
Auto immune diseases are not caused by anything. Simply put your body is attacking itself. I know because I suffer from a couple of them.
You should NOT boost your immune system if you have an auto immune disease because your immune system is already over active and does not need to be more active - as that is the problem.
I have two specialists that I see for my disease and believe me if all it took was to relief stress (which I truly don't have much in my life), good eating habits and exercise I wouldn't have it as I already do all of that and have all my life.
I have to take steriods as they are the only medication that will suppress the immune system and stop it from attacking parts of my body.
