What to Choose – A Closed or Open Rhinoplasty Surgery

August 19, 2013 by Zenisha 1 Comment

Cosmetic procedures have become so common in recent years, as people have started using it to change the way they look and feel. One of the facial features that some have started to change is the nose. The surgery of the nose is medically known as rhinoplasty. The cosmetic procedure on the nose is something that should only be done by an experienced surgeon. It takes a long time for the surgery and it should only be done by those who really need it. In terms of the rhinoplasty procedure, there are two common methods which include open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. Throughout the rest of this context, we will look into both types of methods and see which is best for most.

Open Rhinoplasty

With the open rhinoplasty cosmetic procedure, the surgeon would begin by making an incision on the near exterior nose. An incision is usually made on the columella, which is what splits your two nostrils. Since the cut is made near the outside, it is very common to notice some minor sign of surgery. The surgery works this way because the cartilage becomes visible and allows for the surgeon to make changes with the tissue. It has been known that this method causes some level of swelling. One disadvantage may be that the extra dissection during open rhinoplasty may result in weakening of the intrinsic support mechanisms of the nose. So there is possibility for the nose to change its shape and size during the healing phase. To overcome this issue, your surgeon will use specific grafts to support the structure.

You should consult with your medical professional before making your decision, but open rhinoplasty is usually best for patients who require a complex operation. Surgeons usually like to see the cartilage when performing the surgery, which allows the surgeons to better visualize the anatomy in an undistorted way that helps to make a better diagnosis of the anatomical problems that need correction. If the incision and suturing is done properly, the scar is almost invisible. There are a few advantages to this open rhinoplasty approach.

Closed Rhinoplasty

With the closed rhinoplasty cosmetic procedure, the incision would be made on the inside of the nose. With the incision on the inside, it allows the scar to be on the inside, rather than being visible on the outside. Depending on the complexity of the nose surgery you need, it may be possible to use this method. The closed rhinoplasty method is usually reserved for those who require a simple procedure requiring a few adjustments. No matter how experienced a surgeon may be, it is very hard to carry out major nose work using the closed rhinoplasty method.
Closed rhinoplasty procedures are usually done on people who have an overall good nose structure. This method would be used to remove very minor detail on the nose, but not to reconstruct the nose. With this cosmetic procedure, patients would experience far less swelling, a quicker healing period and requires less time in the operating theatre.

Before you make your final decision, you should consult with your medical professional and surgeon to see which method is best for you. Both technique can yield equally good result if performed carefully, no one technique is superior to the other. An experienced rhinoplasty surgeon can use either technique. The choice of either open or closed rhinoplasty will be based on the most appropriate method that can help achieve the desired result. Most major nose work is done with the open rhinoplasty method, as it is the best possible method for the best result.

Getting Rid of Eye Bags with Laser Surgery

August 11, 2013 by Zenisha 1 Comment

Our eyes say a lot about us, as it is one of the predominant features of our face. From facial expressions to distinct eye correlation, people can really understand someone using their eyes. For many people, the eyes are one part of the face that begins to show several signs of aging, whether it may be baggy eyes or dark circles under the eyes. The signs of aging will vary from one person to the next, but people will begin to notice changes throughout their mid 20’s. This occurs when the skin under the eye becomes so lose, that it has begun to hang rather than stretch.

The most commonly known reason as to why someone may experience these baggy eyes or dark circles is due to sunburn. Exposure to the sun is by far the most harmful for our skin, so it is crucial that you wear the proper concentration of sunscreen lotion. Additionally, the region below our eye lid has a certain amount of fat in them, as this is completely normal. When you drink or eat anything that contains high levels of sodium, it would cause the fat portion under the eye lid to absorb more water content. Increased water causes baggy eyes and people choose to remove it through cosmetic surgery.

With the proper laser surgery treatment, you would be able to get rid of puffy eyes, bags under the eye and dark circles below the lid. Through laser surgery, the bags would be removed without any incision. The laser beam is strong enough in draining fluid content within your body. The lymphatic system in our body is responsible for removing fluids in the tissue layers, so when you drain the fluid from below your eye lids, it goes into your secondary tissue layers. At this time, the lymph system takes action and begins draining the water content from within your tissue layers.

Certain lifestyle changes have also been known to help with removing eye bags. Some of the things you can do to make sure that you are on the right track are; changing your sleep pattern or position. This is sometimes a short-term issue for some people as they just have not been getting enough sleep. When you have a fever or are very sick, it would also cause you to have puffy eyes. Before treating any of this through cosmetic surgery, it is important that you find out whether there is an underlying issue causing any complications. For many people, lifestyle changes have actually worked effectively, which then required no work at all.

Laser surgery is done with a high sensitive low power beam, which is safe to use around the eyes. A cover would be placed around the eye, to ensure that there are no reflections on your eye. In getting rid of eye bags, you should always consult with your dermatologist to know whether you have sensitive skin that may get a reaction to the laser treatment. For most people, laser surgery works with no apparent side effects, as you are given medications for post-reactions.

What Should You Know About an Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery?

August 4, 2013 by Zenisha 1 Comment

When you meet someone, regardless of whom it may be, the first thing you do is make eye contact. Seeing their eyes gives you an overall impression of the other person. If your eyelids are sagging or have wrinkles, it may be noticeable to those who have close communications with you. This happens as you age, or it may occur in some just naturally. The medical term for eyelid lift is blepharoplasty and it is not too common in our society, but many people do consider it as an option to make changes to their appearance. Depending on what you need changed; the eyelid surgery could be done on the bottom or top eye lid.

There are a few types of eyelid surgeries that can be carried out, but again, it depends on what you want as the final result. The first type of eyelid surgery is known as transconjunctival blepharoplasty. Transconjuctival blepharoplasty or lower eyelid blepharoplasty is for those patients who have bags or puffiness under the eyes. It is useful in removing the excess fat of the lower eyelid. This procedure is performed by making a small incision inside the eyelid which leaves no visible external scars. This technique may sometimes be combined with several other techniques depending on the amount of skin excess, wrinkles and line of the lower eyelids and laxity of the lower eyelid.

The other type of surgery is known as double eyelid surgery, sometime referred as Asian blepharoplasty, which creates a natural crease in the eyelid that appears when the eyes are open, but not when they are closed.

With the use of an eyelid lift, you will really be able to change the facial expression of your face. Some people have eyelids that really give a bad impression of them, and this surgery can help turn that around. For some, the sagging eyelid may cause blurry vision, and this procedure may be what they need, in order to start seeing clearly again. Pricing for an eyelid lift will vary between the various cosmetic surgeons, so it is important to get a quote from various doctors. A cosmetic procedure such as this one will not be covered by your medical insurance, so everything would have to be out of pocket. The pricing will include all the medications that will be given to you.

You should be considered as a good candidate for eyelid surgery before the surgeon will even consider you. A good candidate is someone who is in good health, no any chronic diseases, blood disorders etc. The recovery period after the eyelid surgery will vary from individuals to individuals, but the average time is about six to eight weeks. For a week, following the surgery, you should not look at direct light. Doctors recommend that patients wear an eye patch or dark sunglasses. Additionally, no physical work should be done for a week, as you don’t want to pull any nerves. Contacts should be avoided for the same period of time.

So, if you’ve got fat skin, loose skin or sagging skin over your eyes; this may be the right type of cosmetic procedure for you. Again, you should consider speaking with your medical professional and surgeon before making the final decision to go through with the surgery. Consider all the possible benefits of eyelid surgery and see if it is something you would like to go through with.

How to Naturally Reduce Signs of Aging

December 26, 2012 by Zenisha 1 Comment

One of the most important skin problems that people face as they get older is the apparent sign of aging. Aging comes about due to a number of reasons, such as the types of food you eat and drink and even the types of radiation you are exposed to. Exposure to sun is one of the most common causes of showing aging signs. The good news is that there are naturally ways by which you can remove signs of aging. Wrinkles are the most common forms of aging and this could be removed naturally by following certain daily steps, such as the ingredients you use in your food. Collagen levels are one of the most important factors that cause wrinkles in both men and women.

The best way to naturally reduce signs of aging is by boosting the collagen level in the body. There are several clinical products in the market that allow us to reduce the amount of wrinkles that are present on our skin. One specific product that has been in testing for quite some time is Cynergy TK. With this clinical product, it has been known to boost collagen levels in the body. In order to find more similar products, you should speak to your dermatologist. The use of these products will depend on your current resistance to certain medical ingredients.

Some people only use sunscreen when they know that they will be out in the sun for too long. The truth is that, even the slightest exposure to sun will accelerate signs of aging. People who often sit out in the sun will experience a lot of sun burn and damage. The sun damage is rarely visible, as it all happens at the microscopic level. The easiest way to reduce signs of aging at an early age is to begin using sunscreen with a minimum rating of at least 30SPF. In some locations where the suns exposure is stronger; you may want to purchase a sun block lotion that is stronger.

Those who see themselves getting tans from the sun or tanning beds should stop this harmful practice. Even though these sun tanning beds are considered to be safer than the sun rays; it still has been attributed to causing aging spots, wrinkles and possible skin cancer effects. It is also very important to keep your skin moisturized with the use of lotion or creams. By using lotion, your skin will not only look young and silky, but it would also help reduce signs of aging. A selection of lotions is recommended by dermatologist for their anti-aging properties, so it is important to consider brands such as Vaseline and Olay.

Lastly, the makeup products that girls and older women use have been known to cause certain signs of aging. This is because of all the extra oils and ingredients that have been mixed into such products. When purchasing makeup products, it is important that you consider buying makeup sets that have no chemical substitutes. A handful of these products have been attributed to causing acne in some women as well.

Experiencing Dry Skin in the winter

December 15, 2012 by Zenisha 1 Comment

With the winter season just around corner, many people will be experiencing dry skin. There are various things you can do to avoid dry skin in the winter. The cold weather can be attributed towards dry skin, and this is usually seen with the white flakes on the skin. The following tips should help you with keeping your skin moisturized and beautiful, at all times of the year. Now, winter is not the only season in which you will experience dry skin, as some people experience it in the hottest summer weather as well. If the following tips do not help with removing the flakes, you should consult a dermatologist to make sure that you do not have a skin condition.

Tip #1 – You may only wear gloves in the winter to protect yourself from the extreme cold weather, but the reality is that it helps your skin stay moisturized and warm. One of the most common aspects of winter that would be visible on your hands is the sign of flakes and cracked skin. When you do not wear gloves, you will realize that the cold will cause the skin beside your nails to crack heavily. So, even if the cold is not so strong; you should still wear gloves to keep your hands from cracking in the skin regions.

Tip #2 – One of the most important things you should be doing on a daily basis is using hand lotion or any other type hand cream. After washing your hands, it is important to use hand lotion right after. Many people often wash their hands and then simply forget about applying any lotion. When you do wash your hands, it will leave your hands dry within a few minutes. You may not notice the dryness in your hands, but it is still quite apparent. So, even after you have washed the dishes add a small amount of lotion to your hands and spread them around evenly. You will notice the difference within a few weeks of using lotion daily.

Tip #3 – Another common problem experienced in the winter is chapped lips. To reduce chapped lips or dry lips, you should get in the practice of keeping them moisturized. The best way to moisturize your lips is by using a non-smudge chap stick. There are several types of chap sticks in the market, and some will smudge on your scarf or on your hands, if it comes into contact. There are regular lip balms that are colorless and odourless which work just as fine in keeping your lips from cracking.

Tip #4 – Dry air has been known to accelerate dry skin, so make sure that you are not cupped up into a room without any ventilation. If it is cold outside and you are in a room with heating, you may experience dry skin. If you can manage to add some moisture into the air, it would reduce the effects of dry skin. Some people choose to put a bowl of water beside the furnace, so that water vapour is present in the air.

Female Baldness-Why does it happen and can we stop it?

October 26, 2012 by Zenisha Leave a Comment

A common misconception is that only men go bald. Pattern baldness affects women too. Ladies can start to lose their hair just like men. However female baldness is more diffuse not forming a widow’s peak in front or a crown in the back of the head making it harder to notice. Some women can start losing their hair from the early age of 20, but this is a gradual process and may go unnoticed even until the woman is 30 years old. The hair loss may not have a genetic cause; it can be caused by diseases such as thyroid disease or anemia. Hashimoto’s autoimmune thyroiditis is a huge cause of hair loss in women everywhere. To make sure you do not have this disease all you have to do is take a very simple blood test. It is a known fact that men get the baldness gene from their mother and it is suspected that it is the same for women.

Some people used to think that wearing hats or certain head gear would cause hair loss but that is just a myth. What is truly harmful to your hair is the custom to brush it with 100 strokes. If you are already losing your hair those 100 strokes will do nothing but accelerate the process .Same goes for certain hair styles like tight braids, pigtails or dreadlocks. Other hair loss myths are that longer hair does not accelerate baldness by putting extra weight on the already weakened roots. Or that shampoo in excess is not bad for your hair and it only takes away hairs that were going to fall out anyway. Another myth is that coloring your hair does not damage or burn it.

A change in your hair can also be noticed during pregnancy. This is a very strange period for your body .Your hormones rage and fluctuate causing some women to actually get thicker, fuller heads of hair. The cause for this is unknown but it is suspected to be caused by the number of hairs that cycle in the resting period of hair growth.

After delivering the baby or about six month after that, there is a risk of hair loss. We do not know a way to prevent this pregnancy hair loss yet but it may be that you are just returning to your pre-pregnancy hair volume and all that you are shedding is the hair gained in the hormonal period.

Treatments for hair loss in women can be: Rogaine, hair powder fibers or Propencia.

Female pattern baldness like all conditions can be scary and overwhelming at first. My advice is, do not obsess over it. The stress you put yourself through when thinking about going bald actually makes you go bald faster. Take it easy, have a balanced diet, avoid fatty foods, and keep yourself hydrated and you can slow down the progress of your hair loss.

Weird Tips for Glowing Skin

October 10, 2012 by Zenisha 2 Comments

Beauty is a paramount thing in nature. Every person is conscious of his or her appearance because of the innate desire to be attractive. However, effective tips for glowing skin seem to be out of reach of most people.

When it comes to skin care, beauty transcends the use of cosmetic or beauty products you can find on the market. The following tips for glowing skin are what you actually need if you desire the healthy, good-looking skin you’ve always dreamt of.

1.Use Your Skin Cream the Right Way
It is a fact that cream and lotion promote irritations and skin disorders such as pimples because they tend to clog the pores. If you must use them, make sure they have essential natural ingredients such as aloe vera, lime and honey. They will help to minimize any possible side effects of the skin cream and also to nourish your skin. Generally, whether your skin cream has such nutrients or not, you should incorporate a home-made beauty treatment into your moisturizing regime. Add little salt to hot water with which you should wash your face or skin. Do this either in the morning or before bedtime. Afterwards, you can moisturize your body with your cream or lotion. Repeat this procedure 2 to 4 times each week.

2. Intake of Essential Diets is Beneficial to Your Skin
Today, we live in a society where most people eat junks or fast foods that have little or no good on their physical health. If your diets are healthy, you will have a healthy body – of course, a healthy, glowing skin. There are foods that act as anti-oxidants as well as anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal agents for keeping the skin totally free from blemishes. Such sources of foods contain fibers, minerals and vitamins which really help to give a clear, beautiful skin. Eat fresh fruits, leafy vegetables and whole grains. Next time you feel like taking a light meal, may be when you are at work, take some fruits instead of those cookies and snacks. Eat well; and if you must eat, eat healthy, balanced diets. This is one of the major tips for glowing skin!

3.Harness the Therapeutic Power of Water
It is quite amazing that many people think that drinking of water is just to aid proper digestion of foods eaten, or just to quench one’s thirst whenever it arises. Water does more than that. Human body is about 70% water. This is because water serves as an essential catalyst to body metabolisms. It helps to keep the internal systems clean, sound, and healthy. Definitely, this will show on your skin. Water helps to flush out toxin from your body. Drink more that you eat; don’t drink less than you eat. That’s a simple rule to bear in mind.

Armed with the foregoing tips for glowing skin, you may want to consult a dietician for advice on an appropriate diets plan, and a dermatologist for guide on your choice of beauty products.

Uncover Effective Ways to Treat Aging Skin If You Look Older Than Your Age!

September 30, 2012 by Zenisha Leave a Comment

Obviously, the human skin is without doubt the greatest organ of the body, therefore proper care must be provided for you to ever look healthy, attractive and young in body. Do you look older than your age because of wrinkles and aging of your skin, here you will find vital help on this problem.

Generally, thin and fine lines coupled with wrinkles characterize an aging skin, and a variety of factors promote such a skin condition. Skin aging brings about wrinkles, being coupled with some loss in your skin’s texture. Among other causes, exposure to sunlight is a continual issue, and that’s a major factor to developing aging skin because we are all exposed to it almost daily.

Now, here are effective ways you can treat your aging skin when you begin to look older than your age:

1.Laser-beam Treatments
By laser re-surfacing procedures, a high intensity beam will be utilized in the removal of the affected outer layers. Such a treatment is quite effective for the removal skin wrinkles. An alternative laser treatment is known as Fraxel laser. This Fraxel utilizes laser beams which could penetrate deep into the inner layers of your aging skin without affecting the outer skin layers. These two kinds of laser procedures are found to be painful, and thus local anesthetics are essentially used during the treatments.

2.Usage of Dermal Fillers
To make wrinkles become smooth, injectable fillers such as collagen and hyaluronic acid could be used on your skin. If you have fine lines on your nose, mouth or your forehead, such a treatment may be adopted. Specific dermal fillers such BOTOX are able to block nerves that are in the face region such that muscular contraction is inhibited. This minimizes the development of body wrinkles, thereby making your skin look smooth and full of vitality.

3.Oral Intake of Vitamin Supplements
Taking vitamin supplements which perfectly meets your personal aims will help to reduce the signs of an aging skin to ensure a healthy skin. The following are oral vitamin supplements that your skin needs:
i.Vitamin C: it’s a vital supplement that is essential to secrete collagen for the skin. Vitamin C will boost your body’s immune system. A daily intake is good for you.
ii.Vitamin E: it’s a good source of anti-oxidant which helps to fight any aging effects that may be posed by free radicals in your body. This vitamin E keeps your skin well-hydrated; it encourages the proper growth of skin cells.
iii.Vitamin A: this enhances sebum secretion; sebum is a natural oil which is released by the body to offer good hydration to your skin. With this intake, your face wrinkles would greatly reduce since many more cells would be developed. Take vitamin A every day.

Overall, it’s good to consult with a qualified and certified dermatologist that can assist you in making the most appropriate decisions on skin care whenever you begin to have an aging skin or wrinkles on your body.
