How to Take Care of Your Skin

November 29, 2009 by Avinav 5 Comments

The skin is the biggest and most visible organ of a human body. The outer layer of the skin is called the epidermis. The epidermis is a protective covering layer of the more important organs in the body and it is responsible for shedding and producing new cells. The skin plays an important role to regulate our body’s temperature through sweating. It also protects the body from being infected with pathogens such as virus and bacteria, dehydrations and heat damage. The skin is an important medium for excretion of medical waste products.

As we age, our skin tends to lose elasticity. Most of the skin aging processes are preventable and many of them can be treated. Some skin problem happened as a result of inherited characteristic and environment factors.
Acne occurs when your skin pore is blocked with a type of oil called sebum. Sebum’s function is to lubricate the skin and hair. It is common for teenagers to have acne during the onset of puberty when the hormone secretion in their body increases.

When selecting an acne cleanser, choose the one that is suitable for your skin condition. If you have inflammatory acne, do not buy scrubbing cleanser. Instead, choose a gentle liquid acne cleanser that does not contain any scrubbing agent. Wash you face twice per day. After you have applied the acne cleanser, gently massage your face for 10 minutes. When you are done, wash your face with clean water. Washing your face will decrease oil and bacteria.
Besides that, avoid touching your face with your fingers and leaning on objects that collect sebum such as a telephone. This is because our hands are full of germs and bacteria that can cause our skin pore to be inflames and irritated. Therefore, before you wash your hands, you should wash your hands with soap. If you have acne on your body, do not wear tight clothes, scarves, or caps. Tanning will cause your body to produce more sebum and eventually worsen your acne. Tanning will also lead to other skin problems such as wrinkles, and skin cancer.

Too much sunlight is harmful for your skin because of the ultraviolet light which can damage your skin by causing wrinkles, dry skin, and cancerous skin tumors. In order to protect your skin from the sun, avoid going out when the sun is highest. The sun rays are strongest from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. If you have to go out, wear long sleeve shirts and pants so that the sunlight will not directly shine its ray on your skin. For further protection, apply sunscreen on your skin before you go outdoors. You should reapply the sunscreen every two hours if you are sweating a lot or is inside the water.
Moisturizer is important to maintain a healthy skin. The type of moisturizers that is best for you depends on many factors, including skin type, age, and skin conditions. If you want to protect your skin from ultraviolet ray, you should choose a moisturizer that has an SPF of 15 to protect your skin from being damages by ultraviolet rays. If you have an oily skin, you should skip using a moisturizer.

Shaving is the most inexpensive way to remove unwanted hair on your body. If shaving is not performed gently and properly, it will cause skin irritations especially if you have thin, dry and sensitive skin. For a smooth shave, always shave after you have taken a warm bath. To prevent razor burn, apply shaving lotion on your skin before shaving to protect your skin. When shaving, shave in the direction of the hair growth and not in the opposite direction. After you have finished shaving, rinse your skin with warm water. If you suffer from skin allergy, use a shaving lotion that does not contain ethyl or isopropyl alcohol.

How To Get Rid Of Dry Skin

February 10, 2009 by Dr.Deepak 3 Comments

The winter chill can make your skin dry, rough and damaged. Here are few tips to overcome these.

  • Avoid long and hot showers as they strip the skin and its natural moisture.Only use luke warm water.
  • Replace your regular soap with moisturising body wash.
  • Use gentle exfoliating scrubs twice a week, which will remove dead cells and open the skin pores to absorb more moisture.
  • After you shower, gently pat your skin partially dry and apply a moisturising lotion to seal the moisture in the skin.
  • Room heaters strip the air of moisture, so even if you can’t completely do without it, ensure there are humidifiers or bowls of water placed in the room to retain moisture level in the air.
