September 9, 2009 by marilynnsyrett Leave a Comment

Skin sensitivity is a very common complaint with women. Skin sensitivity is characterized by itchiness, Inflammations, redness and abrupt reactions. The reason sensitive skin may differ from person to person can be genetic factors, environmental stressors, misuse of skin care products and so on.

However, there is a difference between sensitive skin and sensitized skin.

Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin is more of an built-in cause. It is characterized by skin redness, irritation and regular inflammations. You never know what will react with sensitive skin. It can be cosmetics or it can be any other number of environmental changes. Factors such as stress, fatigue, drugs, alcohol, sun exposure and pollution can further aggravate the condition of sensitive skin. Other influencing factors are hormone alterations and the natural aging process.

Sensitized Skin
Unlike the previous version, sensitized skin is a cause of environmental effects. People with normal skin suddenly find themselves having sensitive skin. This is a because of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. One possible reason is if you have not treated your skin properly or misused your skin care products.

Some Tips!

  • Avoid exfoliating your skin too much. Also, avoid harsh scrubs and cleansers and heavily perfumed skin care products.
  • Avoid unprotected and prolonged sun exposure and harsh environmental changes.
  • Always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen.
  • Always keep your skin well moisturized.
  • Avoid harsh detergents, soaps and fragrance containing skin care products
