Default Skin Around Bottom of Thumb Nail Ripping/Peeling (IMAGE ATTACHED)

    Hi,

I've noticed that the skin around the bottom of my right thumb nail has started to rip apart and began to peel, sometimes making it bleed. A link to a picture of what I'm describing is below. (Couldn't get it to attach...)

Could this be due to the cold weather and a cold climate? And if so, how can I combat this?

    Thanks.
