When it comes to nail fungus, treatment is ôften difficult and prolonged. Over the counter anti-fungal medications usually doesn't work. Although it will cłear up the infection, it won't cure, it usually recur again. So first line for the treatment of nail fungus are oral anti-fungal medications like Fluconazole, terbinafine, and itraconazole. You may need to take medication for longer time (2-3 months), shorter for fingernails. Liver function test is a most before taking medication and also during medication and after medication ( as prolonged medication may cause liver damage).

How about ur infection? Is it mild or severe? Single, multiple? Fingernails or toenails? Treatment (either topical or oral combination) can tailored according to severity and affected nails.

Studies have shown the most effective treatments to be terbinafine (Lamisil) and itraconazole (Sporanox).
