I have severe cystic acne and my doctor had prescribed Accutane. I heard it has many side effects. Does anyone here experience any side effects please share.

Its normally last options for acne when all medications has failed..,there are many cases of birth defects like abnormalities of the eyes, ears, face, central nervous system, cardiovascular system, and thymus and parathyroid glands so you should not use it if you are pregnant or during pregnancy.

Other side effects might be slight swelling of eyelids or lips, dryness of lips, mouth and skin. sometimes gastro intestinal upset, nosebleeds. If you get of the side effects contact your doctor immediately.

rebicca, accutane is extreme but it does work. you have to follow directions and in usa you have to sign a pledge. the doctor has to sign and so does the pharmacy where you get it. it works, and there are side effects. minor ones is severe dry lips, skin, hands, eyes so moisturize. it is a big step but your doctor will explain everything to you. just make sure you follow the doctors orders.

For those who have tried accutane without getting the results you wanted, you'll find that Blue Light Levulan PDT a more effective approach -- without the safety risks associated with accutane.

I have known several people who have taken Accutane in the past. None of them had any real bad side effects thankfully. They all had really good results with the medication and their acne cleared. They all had severe cases previously as well.
The only complaint I heard from any of them was that their joints felt creaky like they were dry or not fluid filled. It was more strange feeling than painful though. HTH

Because Accutane can cause severe birth defects, including mental retardation and physical malformations, a woman must not become pregnant while taking it. If you are a woman of childbearing age, your doctor will ask you to sign a detailed consent form before you start taking Accutane. If you accidentally become pregnant while taking the medication, you should immediately consult your doctor.

i recommend you not to use accutane as it has many side effects...there are many other nature products which you can use to cure acne...

Accutane is a good medication that can be utlilized by medical professionals for people who do not respond to other conservative treatments. It should not be used before other conservative treatments have been tried, no but it does not have so many side effects that it would preclude it being used at all. It is a viable treatment for acne that has been used by dermatologists for years!

when you go on accutane you have to sign a contract with the doctor. there are side effects but then everything has side effects. if your acne is bad accutane will help. just follow the rules. your derm will make sure you don't get any bad side effects. that is why you have to see the derm more often and the derm checks you out every time you see him or her.

Agreed, accutane is not something to be taken lightly but under the care of a physician it is safe and should be a good alternative for someone that has severe acne.
