I know it's gross but I've seen this from time to time in my son since he was only about five. Sometimes the skin turns grayish white on the sole, gets very moist and peels off in thick patches. We've tried all kinds of foot powders over the years but nothing much seems to work for long. Of course by the time you get the appointment for the dr, it's stopped so it's never been treated by a doc. Any ideas on what to do?

I'm guessing it's from sweat but it could be something entirely different.

One possibility is plantar hyperhidrosis, but feet would be constantly moist here, and peeled skin patches would be only thin, not really thick.

In moist skin, fungi easilly grow (athlete's foot).

There are several genetic or acquired disorders with a common name keratoderma

Here are some other causes of itchy feet.

Sometimes the sweat glands do not go all the way to the top of the skin. This can cause issues and peeling and itching and bumps on the skin. It is common on the feet when this happens. This is NOT a common disease and is hereditary.
Your son needs to be seen by a dermatologist to rule out this and some other issues. HTH
