It is not really an antibiotic, but it seems like some people use Tea tree oil that contains chemicals known as terpenoids.

I am neither a Dr or a specialist, but I am always open to learn :)

Even though Tetracycline or Doxycycline is old as the hills, I think it is still one of the best treatments for acne that is on the market today.

I suggest to use herbal medicines rather than antibiotics because of their harmful effects. Today's the world is returning towards natural way of curing due to the harmful effects of today's chemical & synthetic medicines. People are deeply worried on this issue and also insisting to use natural way of curing to get health & security.

Tea tree is a good antiseptic and anti-fungal oil. It has some excellent properties. I would think that you could rub it on pimples and get some good results with it.

For skin diseases like acne, psoriasis and vitiligo. Use herbal products they are effective and without side effects.

Minocycline worked a treat for me, but have known others that have had really bad side effects with it.. I think everyone is different. However, since growing up I seem to be blesses with not many spots/acne anymore.. just combination skin :(

I've never used any of these pills personally but I know people who have. My ex boyfriend was on tetracycline for a while and he had really harsh side effects. He had very bad acne and he was a soccer player so staying out of the sun like doctors tell you to do wasn't an option for him. He had really red skin for a while and his blemishes and break outs on his back never seemed to go away. I don't believe that the pill is the answer.

The 3 more common antibiotics are tetracycline, doxycycline, and minocycline.

Minocycline is the newest among the 3, and has the least side effects. But, in terms on strength, tetracycline and doxycycline still tend to win.

When I was a teenager I was a massive acne sufferer, after what seemed like a gazillion treatments, I was finally given Roacutane (very harsh treatmant) and it worked a treat, sure my skin got dry but meh e45 and vasseline all the way was fine.

yea its makes your skin dry and i also heard it causes hair loss too, did you had any side effects then dry skin ?

Nope nothing else changed at all, just dry skin, which nobody noticed due to the E45 and vasseline (for my lips) that I used to plaster on.

I may have perhaps got a little grumpy, but my skin was clearing up so that counterbalanced it. :)

I have never been on pills for acne. I have suffered a lot because of them and still continues to be so but I still don't want to be on any chemicals. The only reason being none of them is going to have no side-effects and though I hate pimples and acne I don't want to suffer in any other way because of them.

When I use acne pads, that tends to clear up my face. Thankfully I was fortunate when it came to outbreaks and that my acne wasn't severe.

I think washing our face regularly with nice face wash could reduce them.

Vitamin b12 is said to positively affect the hormonal imbalance. i've been taking a pill a day for the last year (the first "good" year for me acne-wise since puberty).

I've never used antibiotics for acne, and I believe that it should be the last resort. But I have used tea tree oil that was mentioned by some folks here.
In my experience it does help of expedite healing of existing pimples. not sure if it can prevent future ones.

lifting serums good for acne too?

why would they be?

Roaccutane worked wonders for my skin but my acne came back 6 months later. Thens i started using vitamin B12 and B5 and that has been working although i still get the occasional pimple or two.

Some doctors think topical antibiotics arnt effective at treating acne. Apparently products which contain something called salicylic acid are the most effective. And benzoyl peroxide.

Interesting article here about which products are the best at the moment (skip the first page or 2 about causes of acne!)

I must say Tetracycline was the most suitable on my skin type. I had acne as a teen and saw a massive improvement after having Tetracycline.

I find this a little bit confusing, I've never heard of any of these tablets and surely to judge the 'best' we would've had to try more than one... which doesn't seem that healthy to me...

oh lucy you are so young. i love it. you will keep us on our toes. antibiotics are used when acne is out of control and nothing else is helping. yes you could use accutane(roaccutane) but that is a very big step for some people. you have youthful beautiful skin. and apparently haven't been sick much as a child. all the ones listed on the vote page are antibiotics. turmeric is an herb that has many uses. hope i helped explain some of your confusion.

no I know what acne antibiotics do. I just don't understand the need for the poll, surely we should be promoting other ways of getting rid of acne then making people aware of what antibiotics are out there. and that only people can take part in this poll if they've used these antibiotics, just saying that one on a more general subject would've been more user-friendly.

vencasand
04-09-2012, 12:11 PM
i think the poll is more or less to see how people get along with certain antibiotics that have acne. the poll is old, but there are more newer votes on it so it is continuing. this isn't to say that antibiotics are the answer to acne. doctors use antibiotics usually when acne is infected. the doctors don't use them indiscriminately. when all else has failed an individual in helping to keep bad acne at bay, that is when the antibiotics are prescribed. this is just a poll, it is not promoting antibiotic use.

I've get rid of my pimples using Retin A and this was a huge improvement for my life, especially my social life. But a few days ago, my skin care professional that well help me alot!!!, When I've told her about my acne condition and how I use Retin-A weekly, even after 3 years of treatment, she told me that he heared a substance from Retin-A works as an anti-wrinkle treatment. So, I control acne.

Hi, Acne is a serious problem especially for girl’s lol. Yeah I am also in the same problem but I don’t use chemical and any products for that. I believe home remedies are the best solution for acne. Drink plenty of water per day, wash your face as much possible if you follow these two think you don't need to use any product.

Using Doxycycline since I was a teen on and off. It works great but takes time to show results. Recommended to take at least 3 months and gradually reduce the dosage after that.

I too suffered from acne and I think this is the most irritating thing I've ever faced. I recovered it with revitol acnezine. Since it has come into the market, the treatment for acne has become easier and less expensive. By using this product you can remove those bumps or pimples appearing on your face. It's a must try!

Usually the first choice for treating acne is tetracycline — such as minocycline or doxycycline — or a macrolide. Oral antibiotics should be used for the shortest time possible to prevent antibiotic resistance. Oral antibiotics are best used with topical retinoids and benzoyl peroxide.

Hi All,

I'm a casting researcher from a TV production company called Boomerang. We are working on a new series for a major UK broadcaster, where leading dermatologists will be helping and treating people with a variety of skin conditions quickly and for free.

We are currently casting for the programme, and are looking for people who are desperate for medical treatment and advice in understanding and overcoming their skin conditions. I understand this a sensitive subject, however, the show will spread awareness and give life-changing results!

If you are interested and want to know more details, please get in touch at skin@boomerang.co.uk with your name, contact details, location, and an image of the skin condition you would like treated and why.

Best,
Beth
