Seborrhea – usually characterized by red scaly patches and in very severe case it can also extend to the chest. This is not excessive skin dryness as one would think, but like many microscopic organisms on our skin, a tiny yeast form lives in the oil glands feeding on the hair follicles. In some people for reasons unknown this yeast overgrows and causes the scaliness.
Shampoo containing 2% ketoconozole and zinc pyrithione specially control the yeast. In case of stubborn seborrhea, oral medication of fluconozole under medical supervision may be necessary.
