I make my own creams now and one of my favourites is just shea butter and coconut oil. I also add a few drops of essential oil to give it a nice aroma. As I live in a relatively cold climate, during winter the cream sets as though its been stored in a fridge. I wondered if there was anything I could add to keep it at a consistency so I can put it into a pump container?
I like what I use, what I am looking for is something to add to it to keep it soft in a cooler temp.

Well i'm not an expert in making home made recipes but have you tried making it a 70% solid (shea butter and coconut oil) and 30% liquid (other essential oils). Adding glycerine, Vit E might also be good for winter...

Thanks Deepak. I figured a carrier oil or even olive oil but as its not something I use normally I thought I would ask around for suggestions.

There are many very good recipes for lotions and creams on the Internet. If you want to use a pump you will want a lotion not a cream. I make all my skincare and have gotten most of my recipes from the Internet. Do a google search I think you will enjoy looking at the many recipes out there

Thanks Sandy but I don't want to be spending money on products I wont use so was looking for something to add just to stop it forming into a block. During the summer months here my pump works fine but not in the winter.

For anyone reading this wondering what I used, I settled for cold pressed Apricot Kernel carrier oil. It contains Vitamin A Vitamin B1 Vitamin B2 Vitamin B6, B17, Vitamin E and being lighter than some other carrier oils, blends better in creams.
Mixed with my shea butter and coconut oil it is very rich so not a lot is needed but I have produced the consistency that I was looking for.
I also put a few drops of tea tree oil for its antiseptic properties and sweet orange oil which is good for the skin, but also masks the smell tea tree and gives the cream a nice aroma.
Orange oil only has a 6 month shelf life so I only made small amounts of cream but I also use it in my oil burner so it wont go to waste.
