View Full Version : Pityriasis Herald Patch or Ringworm maybe? (Pic included)

Recently I noticed a somewhat-circular red patch of skin that seems dry, slightly raised, only barely itches and has no pain associated on my head (near forehead) and I am trying to find out what it is. It seems to have developed about 2 days ago and I thought I would leave it alone hoping it would go away but it hasn't. It seems similar based on some images that I've seen to Pityriasis Rosea (perhaps the "Herald patch"?) Is this possible to occur on someone's head? I read that it's mostly around the waist (trunk area) and sometimes the back but haven't found anyone else with something like this on their scalp. Or could it possibly be ringworm?
By the way, the dark spot in middle is just a mole.

Hello Sol. Hopefully someone with medical experience will help you out better but in my opinion it doesn't look like ring worm. Pityriasis Rosea I am not familiar with but from pics I just looked at, it doesn't resemble it in my opinion.
Are you in an area where it could be a bite? Again this isn't something I am familiar with, being British, but its just a possibility.
If no one can offer any help over the weekend I suggest you get it checked out if this is possible.
So sorry I have not been much help but wanted to reply so you don't give up as we have some very experienced people here.

Welcome to the forum Sol....
Doesn't look like Ringworm or PR to me too.. This looks like allergic contact dermatitis..could be due to anything that came in contact with the skin, even spiders and insect. This might resolve within 7-10 days.. Do you have burning sensation? or anything ? do u have blisters? You may apply moisturizers and mild corticosteroid cream for faster heal....
Being said that, there are several other conditions that resemble such lesion, and as you said it doesn't itch..this is confusing.. so it is wise to visit a dermatologist so he/she can personally examine the lesion and manage accordingly.

Thank you very much for the replies, I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to give me feedback. It appears after a total of 5 days now that the red patch has reduced in swelling, it's not as raised as it was a few days ago, so I believe that may be some forward progress. As you mentioned Deepak, it could have been something simple that I came into contact with that caused a reaction. I typically have not had any allergies or been allergic to anything in my entire life that I know of but that doesn't mean it still can't happen. I know there is still no pain, no itching, no burning. It does not appear to be blistered either. I'm very confused on this one as well but since it seems to be making forward progress healing, I believe I will wait it out a few more days. Should anything else show up near the area or it becomes worse, I will immediately seek medical opinion from a dermatologist. Thank you again for your responses, I mostly wanted to rule out PR/Ringworm first.

Just thought I would give you guys an update and let you know it cleared up within 3 days after my last post so it was most likely some kind of allergic reaction or bite. There's no way it was either of the other things I mentioned previously with how quickly this cleared up. Thanks again for your kindness and advice.

Hi Sol, I know the problem has resolved, but I find it concerning that the area affected is around a mole. I'd recommend having the mole checked out just to be on the safe side.

I'm glad also that is resolving itself and like Tia suggests, if there is any noticeable change to a mole, it should be checked out although in your case it could just have been a coincidence.
If in doubt, check it out.
