I'm 6 months pregnant and diagnosed with chlamydia. My doctor has prescribed me azithromycin to take orally and cream to apply. I'm still afraid, will Chlamydia affect my baby?
Any suggestions whould be appreciated.

Hello and welcome. Congrats on your upcoming birth and apologies for your current condition. Firstly I have no medical knowledge but the knowledge I have, combined with a quick search on a British medical site, I have some answers for you.
The antibiotic you have been given are commonly used, even in pregnant women to treat this. The one thing you must remember is to complete the course even if you no longer have symptoms. You have to do this to prevent it returning. In your condition I would make sure you visit your GP again when you finish the course of tablets so they can check you are clear.
Some babies exposed to Chlamydia develop conjunctivitis within days of birth but this is easily treated. A very small number can develop pneumonia within the first few months after birth but again this is treatable. From my knowledge this will only happen if left untreated during birth.
The other thing you must consider is informing any sexual partners you have had recently (forgive my broad use of the words) and make sure that any further sexual contact you have is protected.
I hope this brings you some comfort in knowing that as you are getting this treated it is highly unlikely that baby will suffer in any way.

Hi anonymouse!
Congrats for being blessed with child, but as you are diagnosed with chlamydia I would strongly suggest you finish your course do antibiotic and a strain yourself from sexual contact within 7 days after completion of antibiotic as well ensure safe sex in future. Also have the test for chlamydia redone after 3 to 4 weeks of completion of medication. I would also like to suggest you to have your parter also done the test (that you have come in contact with at least 2 months back from symptoms)for decreasing the chance of reinfection. Ensuring the eradication of the infection before delivery iis must for preventing the child from perinatal infection during labour as well as saving yourself from its complication.

Congrats on your pregnancy. Please follow your doctor's instructions. Ask him/her any questions you need to. Your doctor knows your medical history more than we do. Keep us posted on your progress. Babies are precious.

Thank you for your response. Somewhat relief, Lol.. I've always been in a monogamous relationship. Thanks, I'll be visiting the doctor next week for my routine checkup, i'll ask him to get tested. Thanks again for your suggestion. I'll try to update on my condition.

I'm glad we were able to offer some peace of mind although obviously it is something that needs treating. Apologies if my term of phrase offended. I guess looking back I could have phrased it better. It would be great if you stayed in touch and I hope the doctors appointment goes well for you.
