My 4 years old son has brown patches and pigmentation over the trunk. It was last summer when i noticed few pigmentation on his chest which has now increased to many brown patches. He itches badly. I just thought may be due to heat or sun exposure but he itches even in cool or when not in the sun. He also gets hives frequently on those areas. I'm planning to get an appointment with the dermatologist, but before that i wanted to know if someone here has the same condition or can suggest me what could be the condition my son is suffering from.

Thank you very much.

When it comes to children and rashes it is best to see the skin condition in person. i think it is best to see your family pediatrician.

Hello and welcome. Sorry to hear your son has some form of rash. Without seeing photos I doubt anyone could give you any suggestions as to what it is but personally as it involves a child so young I would make an appointment to see a specialist. That way observing it first hand, and possibly taking a sample (usually a tiny painless scraping of the skin) anything serious can be ruled out. Please let us know what happens as it may help others in the future. Plus its a good place to check back if you need further advice. Good luck to your son.

Yup as Nikki suggested, a picture would help us diagnosis and suggest more specifically. Anyway for me your son's condition looks like Urticaria pigmentosa a childhood form of cutaneous mastocytosis (excessive mast cells [Histamine and heparin] in the skin resulting in severe itching and lesions. Please visit your dermatologist and he may perform some tests ( biopsy..etc.) and confirm the diagnosis. For the time being you may give some over the counter anti-histamines to your son to relief itching and to avoid scratching....

Being said that.. online diagnosis without an actual pics and personal examination is difficult and may be misleading in some cases. So, please visit your dermatologist and confirm it. Do let us know the updates.
