Basic Homemade Lotion Recipe

Ingredients

1 to 2 tablespoons (3 to 8g) Emulsifying wax
(depending on how thick you want it)
1/3 cup (75ml) Carrier Oil (see below for suggestions)
1/2 cup (125ml) distilled Water
1 teaspoon (5ml) Vitamin E
10 drops Grapefruit Seed extract
Optional: 1 to 2 tablespoons (25ml) Vegetable Glycerin
Optional: 10 to 20 drops Essential Oil (see below)
Directions

Stir together the oil, emulsifying wax and glycerin in the top part of a double boiler, warming slowly over a low heat until the wax is melted. Remove from heat and pour in the Vitamin E.

In a separate pot on the stove or in the microwave, gently warm the water just until lukewarm. Do NOT skip this step - your homemade lotion will separate later if the water is too cold.

Slowly pour the water into the oil, stirring briskly with a whisk until the mixture is a uniform color.

Stir in the essential oils and the grapefruit seed extract. Pour the homemade body lotion into a clean, sterilized 8oz (250ml) dark glass or PET plastic bottle and allow it to cool before putting the lid on.

The oil and water components of the lotion will separate as it cools. Shake the bottle every 10 to 20 minutes to re-mix them. Once the lotion has cooled completely, they will stay mixed.

Store in a cool, dark place.

This recipe makes approximately 8oz (250ml) homemade body lotion.

Is this home made moisturizer suitable for all skin types? Since the moisturizer is natural it will be safe for the skin. Thanks for your useful skin care recipe.

This is a nice recipe for a lotion but should be used within a month as there is no preservative in it. Many believe the grapefruit seed extract is a preservative but it shouldn't be relied upon for any length of time.

Simple homemade moisturizer remedy
Ingredients required:
1/2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp liquid vitamin-E
5-7 drops lavender essential oil and/or tea tree oil
Combine & mix the coconut oil, vitamin-E or tea tree oil, and lavender in a bowl.
If you're making this moisturizer in the colder months, when coconut oil tends to be very solid(hard as a rock),you can whip these ingredients together with your hand mixer creating for a smooth, creamy product.
I have very oily skin and find coconut oil provides my skin with the perfect moisture it needs without the greasy feeling I often get from store-bought moisturizers. The vitamin-E and essential oil both are healing and refreshing.
