It is a common skin disease mostly seen in teenagers and young adults, but is known to be present in persons of all ages. Most common sites for its presence are forehead, face, chest and back.
They are known to begin in teenage and decrease in the early twenties but sometimes continue for a longer time.
How does it happen?
Sebaceous glands normally secrete sebum (oil) from the surface of the skin. Cells that are close to the surface block the openings of these glands. Therefore the sebum gets blocked inside. Bacteria begin to grow and multiply inside the gland and the process of inflammation begins. This leads to the formation of pus which can be seen on the surface of the skin. If the inflammation goes deep, a cyst is formed. Scars are formed as a result of accumulation of collagen in the process of healing.
Causes
Stress
Hormonal activity such as that occurs during puberty and menstrual cycles
Hereditary tendency
Infections
Diet: Oily and greasy foods are known to cause or aggravate acne in many cases
Unhygienic conditions can also cause acne in sensitive skin
Certain cosmetics can cause acne when they don’t agree with the skin
Drugs: Certain medications like steroids, lithium and anticonvulsant medications are known to cause acne.
Symptoms and signs
Red scaly skin
Tenderness or pain
Blackheads or whiteheads
Pus filled boils
Large boils
Scars
Role of homoeopathy
What is Homoeopathy?
Homoeopathy is a form of treatment based on the law of similars i.e. ‘like cures like’. Homoeopathy treats the person suffering from disease rather than the diseased organ. . The skin performs multiple functions of protection, synthesis, absorption, excretion, etc. Homoeopathy does not recognize the skin as a mere organ, but as an organ that has to be maintained in harmony with the entire system (body and mind) as a whole. According to Homoeopathic philosophy there are certain constitutional defects in the body or mind or both that give rise to various disease processes .Homoeopathy treats the illness from its roots and restores a healthy balance in the person.
How does homoeopathy help in cases of Acne??
The external skin problems cannot arise or persist or even grow worse without some internal cause. Most often stress or other emotional problems are the cause for the development of acne. Hormonal imbalance is frequently a sequel to emotional disturbances. Circumstances that create stress cannot be done away with but its effects on the body can be dealt with the help of homoeopathic medicines. Homoeopathic medicines enter the system and reduce the effects of stress, and stimulate the hormonal centers to regulate the secretion of hormones to restore a balance in the psycho-neuro-endocrine system.
What is needed for homoeopathic treatment??
A deep acting, constitutional remedy is needed for the homoeopathic treatment of acne. It is chosen by the homoeopath after a complete and thorough study of the emotional, intellectual and behavioral aspects and also giving importance to other physical symptoms like perspiration, stool, urine, menstrual discharges, reactions to temperature, sleep patterns and dreams. Homoeopathic remedies that will lessen the hereditary influence on the body are also necessary to be introduced frequently as per the demand of the case.
External applications are not advisable for the treatment of acne. As acne is due to an internal disturbance an internal homoeopathic remedy is needed to get rid of it. Ointments and other medicated creams will only suppress the condition or drive it to the inner layers of the body.
Other benefits of homoeopathy
Homoeopathic medicines work not only to improve condition of the skin but also to improve overall immunity and builds resistance to diseases.
Homoeopathic medications are completely safe and effective.Homoeopathic medicines must be taken only after consultation from a homoeopathic practitioner.
