Hi,

I have pigmentation marks inside my lower eyelid, so different to the dark patches people normally get under their eyes. Can anyone suggest anything I can do to get rid of them?

Thanks

Do you mean inside or under your eyes.Because if its under your eyes that may be due to increased melanin production caused by excessive uv exposure or increased dilation of blood vessel resulting in escape of blood from the vessels and deposition of iron in the soft tissue of skin caused by excessive stress, late night sleep etc

To prevent from excessive melanin deposition we can use proper sunscreen of SPF 15 or above when we expose our self to sunlight. we also need to correct our dietary deficiency, improvement of sleep or general health and avoiding eye strain by applying cold soaks and closing and relaxing eyes for 10 to 15 minutes everyday.

It is inside your eye? If it is inside your eye do not put anything on it.

Excessive exposure to sun is bad, apart from vitamin D , required from sunlight excessive exposure to sun rays could cause various issues with the skin, in short it is both harmful aesthetically and clinical
Exposure to sun rays would dry up the skin irreparably that ultimately leads to faster ageing and wrinkles on the skin.
It also causes Hyper pigmentation, sun tan and sun burn on the exposed ares of the body.
The darker skin tone is usually happens in Bands, its very unseemly response of the skin to the exposure to the harmful rays of the sun .
When gradually tan wears of from the skin, it leaves patchy skin tone , that looks in bands of white and black.
UVD rays are also major cause of melanoma (skin cancer) world wide.
What to do to lighten a sun tanned skin?
It can simply be understood by the example question, What do you do when you have rust on an iron window frame?
Answer is pretty obvious, you scrub off the rust and then repaint the frame to prevent further rusting.
Similarly, sun tans are excessive deposits of melanin on the skin surface that needs to be scoured of (no scrathiching) to bring out the original skin tone and color
There are lot of scrub method available and most of them natural method. Fruit scrub, herbal scrub, chemical scrub, facial scrub, body scrub, anti-oxidant based cleanser and skin tone lightener, all will help you in removing/lightening the tan.

Things required for complete sun tan removal program:
Here is the list required to get rid of skin tan..
Exfoliating scrub for the face (suitable for your skin type)
Exfoliating scrub for the body
Loofah or pumic stone
Bleaching agent such as hydrogen peroxide or 1/2 tsp washing powder for the body
Natural homemade remedies such as lemon/ yogurt/aloe vera gel/ cucumber/ raw potato juice/ fresh cream/ gram flour/ bread/ raw milk etc.
A cleansing and toning face pack suitable for your skin( if you have oily or sensitive skin, don’t use facials, go with a fruit peel instead)
Moisturizing cream and body lotion
Patience
Proactive approach
Day 1:
Massage your face, legs and rest of body that is exposed to sun with apporopirate amound of exfoliating scrubs, we just described above. Gently massage and smear on the skin. You can even find some more good quality and effective fruit scrubs, Like lemon and meshes of raw potato. Or over the coutner scrubs could remove dirt , sebum, and dead cells, and help greatly to reveal fresh skin, and in turn leave skin smooth and supple.
Do not apply anything immediately after exfoliating. As the pores are open, they absorb everything that is applied onto the skin.

However, one should not scrub everyday as it is abrasive in nature and enlarges the pores.

I really appreciate the responses but i think there may have been some confusion. My type of pigmentation is inside my eyelid, the best way I can describe it is that it looks like eyeliner. Could i apply lemon juice or cucumber juice with a cotton swab or would that be harmful for my eye? Or is my only option laser surgery?

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. you will burn your eye. have you been checked by an opthamologist to see if it is something other than just pigmentation? could it be a birthmark. those suckers can show up anywhere on your body. have an eye doc check it out and ask him/her what to do. eyes are too important to fool around with.

A pigment is a material and element that may changes the color of reflection light as the result of wavelength-selective absorption. It is said that pigmentation is contributed to by many factors including genetics, sun exposure, hormonal changes and other skin trauma.

I agree with the advice to consult a specialized doctor if need be. I always like to read up on the condition as much as possible, so I can decide if I need to consult a doctor, and if so, more easily follow along with the doctor and ask (somewhat) educated questions. Also suffering from some hyperpigmentation, I came across this article: [ Link under review]

Definitely worth a read, particularly the section about safe alternatives for skin lightening. I hope this helps!

Be careful putting anything that close to your eyes ...

Are you sure it is the actual pigmentation, or is it perhaps blood vessels, which is a cause of dark circles as well.

The skin around our eyes is very thin, therefore it is easy for blood vessels to become noticeable and appear to darken those areas of your skin.
