Sages of the ancient period, who developed Ayurveda as a medical system, had stressed the need for having a holistic approach while treating the patient. Various interpreters of the Veda say that the yoga part is incorporated with Ayurveda in order to attain this vision of holistic treatment. While Ayurveda takes care of the physical aspects of the healing process, it is the yoga that helps in controlling both body and mind, they say.
``It is amazing that the ancient sages could come up with such a Life of Science thousands of years back. As per their vision, yoga and Ayurveda complement each other. And together, they address all the ill effects on health,’’ says Jayasree Warrier, a researcher in Ayurveda.
Ayurveda always identifies the existence of an organ in its totality. For example it does not identify the brain as an alien thing, while treating an ailment on the legs. According to Ayurveda, it is just not the organic brain that matters, but the force arising from it plays a crucial part in the healing of the body.
Yoga too takes such an approach to the body. It is a kind of `internal massage’ and it helps to control our thought waves as well as the rhythm of our body movements. It helps in increasing the level of concentration too.
Ayurveda and yoga together, with a control over the body and mind, help in improving physical as well as mental health. Kerala Ayurvedic hospitals and practitioners offer a combination of Ayurveda and yoga which helps to provide a comprehensive treatment to the patient. Patients can also avail tailor-made health solutions and treatment plans from many a [url under review] scattered across the State.
