It is important to choose the right soap for skin some soaps may claim to be natural or herbal but may in fact contain chemicals and harmful ingredients.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, This is a great water-soluble facial cleanser. It's mild enough to be used on dry or eczematous skin, and it doesn't contain any fragrances that can be irritating. This cleanser is a lotion that doesn't lather, and it rinses off well without a washcloth. It doesn't remove makeup well, but most people with dry skin don't wear a lot of makeup.

Hello Dermatalk members,

I strongly feel that soaps with the fewest ingredients are usually best for the skin. My name is Greg and I am new to this board but I hope to become an active member and participate in whatever way I can. I suffer from sensitive skin and many soaps cause me to itch throughout the day.

Given the economic situation the US (and the world for that matter) is in, and my friends' and my attempts to find better jobs, we decided to start a worker cooperative that produces bar soap. Our soaps are incredibly mild and we're trying to get the word out. We only ship to the US currently but hopefully that will change soon. Our website is [URL under review]. We currently donate 10% of our profits to helping other people start worker cooperatives and to grow the worker cooperative movement. I'm looking forward to becoming a more active member on this board and learning about and sharing my own skin issues.

One should not use soap on their face. I checked out your web site and you do not list all of your ingredients that you use in your soap. I am assuming you are making soap with lye, etc.

Your soaps look good but they are not unique and I would not call them 'incredibly mild'. It appears you are only using olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil in your soaps. I would suggest if you want to make milder soaps you use other oils.

Please refrain from spamming this site with your products.

Hey Y34963,

I will refrain from posting spam on this forum. However, I do feel that I need to address your comments. We have listed all of our ingredients on our website I am not sure how you missed this. Our base ingredients are Saponified Olive Oil, Saponified Coconut Oil, Saponified Avocado Oil, and Water. For our scented soaps we add essential oil of the plant and that is also listed for each respective product on our website. That is all we put in to our soaps.

Yes all soap requires Lye to make but no Lye is left in the soap after the oils have saponified. The majority of our soap is made from olive oil, and I would disagree that you need other oils to make it more mild, I would like to see some proof for you to make that claim. Mildness is determined by how much lye to fat you add and our soaps are about between 8-9% super-fatted. Which means we add about 8-9% extra oil then needed to produce soap. This produces a softer bar which is also gentler on the skin.

I am not sure what you mean by our soaps not being unique but I can say that they do not have any artificial colorings or fragrances, stiffeners, or detergents and that is the point. Also if you read more about us or check out our blog you'll see that we're more than a soap company we're trying to rebuild the American economy cooperatively. You can visit the international cooperative alliance (http://ica.coop) or the Network of Bay Area Worker Cooperatives (http://nobawc.org) for more information about what that means, or follow our blog.

No need to address my comments. I expect that since you have been told not to spam this site with your products we will not be hearing much from you. I am not going to debate your soaps. I have been making my own soaps for a very long time and know exactly what you are trying to do. As far as your company's mission, that has nothing to do with this site. If you think you can rebuild the American economy cooperatively, then good luck with that.

Depending on your condition and the sensitivity of your skin, herbal soaps can be very effective. Body natural soap and glycerin soap have been known for good results. A moisturizing soap that has natural and herbal ingredients should be included to get the best results.

Ivory - because it does what it is supposed to do. You get a true clean and is perfect for all skin types. Also, it doesn't clash with any perfumes or fragrance mists that I like to use!

i am afraid ivory is a little harsh on my skin. i have tough skin and can use almost any products on it but ivory soap dries my skin out. everyone is different so i might be the one out of 1000 that can't use it.

I suggest you use a clear soap with a very soft, natural boar bristle shaving brush. Yes the ones that men used to use to make a lather before canned shaving creme was invented.Wash the face of the infected skin thoroughly and frequently with water and mild soap. Doing so will help take off excessive oil from the skin surface. Do not overdo it, though as you may end up having more damage as the skin may dry out, causing further irritation.

I think Dove is the best soap I have ever used for my body. It's very moisturizing and does not have a strong, perfumey scent in it.

well i have been using organic bath products for a long time, and so far so good i haven't experience any side effects. since it is organic, there is no harmful chemicals in its ingredients. therefor it is safer to use, than any other soap. don't believe in commercials and advertisement, they are all lies, you should try the product yourself.

People can and are allergic to organic substances. My daughter is allergic to aloe. It just isn't chemicals that people have problems with.

I agree that advertisements are very misleading. I get extremely upset with skincare ads that profess that we will look like that 19 year old model if we use their products.

If we think about it our skin starts showing aging at around 20, we live until well in our 80s now so middle age is 40ish. We will live with few fine lines and wrinkles a lot longer than we will without them.

Hi, I have been through a consultation of our dermatologist and different skin specialists and I only got one recommendation for soap. They would always refer "Dove" to be the best in moisturizing and cleaning our skin.

According to me soaps are harsh for skin. So avoid harsh soaps, better to use the one your dermatologist according to your skin type. I use johnson's baby soap.
