i haven't had thie done myself because of the cost and no insurance covers it but it takes many laser treatments to destroy the hair follicles. some times up to six treatments. but until i find a rich person to take care of me i won't be able to have it done in my lifetime.

It does but you need to go through many session of laser treatment, every months or every other month. Initially, In between the session hair might grow, but after 6-7 session about 80-90 percent of the people will have permanent hair removed, while for few cases maintenance treatment every year might needed for few years.

i don't think it will be permanent as after no of sittings ur hair becomes so thin that they are not visible. How many sitting you must take will be decided by your doctor after the examination of your hair growth and strength....

Laser hair removal could be permanent--but not after a single session. Usually, it would take 4 to 6 sessions for the permanent removal of hair in a certain area. However, burning/darkening of the skin area is possible. :(

Laser Hair Removal isn't permenant in the first instance, but the more times you have it done, the more it permenantly kills the hair folicles, which give a permenant result (although, I would've thought eventually your body will replace the folicles as you shed layers of skin).

Laser is FDA approved for permanent hair removal. Most people get rid of hair after 3-5 sessions. Some have to go through upto 8 sessions. It destroys hair follicles - the root from which hair grow.
Laser works best if your hair are darker than skin.

How many sittings are needed ?

Hair growth is cyclical as hair follicles go through resting and growing phases. Only follicles in the growth phase contain hair and are destroyed by the light. Resting hair follicles need to enter the growth phase before they can be destroyed by the laser treatment. It maybe, therefore, necessary to repeat the treatment at 1-2 month intervals until all hair follicles have been through the active phase. The length and timing of the growth cycles are affected by numerous factors such as body site, hair density and thickness, ethnic origin, hormonal status and age. The sittings depend on your hormonal metabolism. Some people are happy even with one or two sittings whereas others may require for 4-6 sittings, or even more.

how long does the treatment take ?

A large number of hair are targeted in one flash of light. A facial treatment takes around 10 minutes whereas a back or both legs may take 20 minutes.

Does it hurt ?

No anesthetics are required and most people describe the sensation as similar to that of pin pricks on the skin

How does the treatment work ?

The ultimate answer for permanence lies in the destruction of the roots which lie on the other side of the skin. The only known method to go past the skin was to slit and go in. Now, since the advent of laser light, those methods like electrolysis are history. In a few seconds the laser light is guided to the hair roots. Hair contains a pigment (melanin) that absorbs the light and sends it to the roots past the upper layers of skin. The roots are destroyed and then are unable to produce new hair. To ensure optimal energy transmission to the hair, a thin layer of gel is applied to the skin and the hair is trimmed before laser application.

it will remove your hair permanently if you have light growth. If the growth is thick it doesnt remove your hair completely but reduces the growth. I was lucky i got good result because my growth was light.

Laser hair removal is permanent... however, you have to go in for multiple sessions before all the hair is removed. And at a couple hundred dollars per session it gets VERY spendy... but definitely worth it when you think about how much money you'll save on razorblades!!!

Laser hair removal is permanent...
Well, I'm not agree with that. I have a small blog about laser hair removal (it is in romanian, I won't give you the link because you won't understand what is there) and there are a lot of women that are complaining about this.

If a laser hair removal is permanent or not depend of a few factors. The method that you chose, the doctor that is doing it (I mean his/her experience), if you used meds like roaccutanee in last 6 months etc.

Yes, of course permanent hair removal is totally dependent on the technique and the experience of doctor.

No, I don't think so because if any doctor use laser technology to remove hair whether he is new to the profession or very well experienced hair will gonna be removed but one should take this treatment if it is required and don't have an option. But, it has some side effect also. One should be very careful while undergoing this treatment.

Yes Lesser treatment is the indefinite solution of Hair removal. You just undergo the Laser Hair Removal Treatment 3 times and they will remove permanently.

Laser treatments are only approved by the FDA for “permanent hair reduction” NOT “permanent hair removal”. This simply means that some regrowth is to be expected, this is not a permanent hair-removal solution for most consumers (though reduction of hair can be expected).

There can be side effects that can range from itching or swelling (which will disappear after a few days) to more serious (but rare) side effects like burning, skin discoloration, blistering and infection.

Since the laser targets melanin (pigment that gives skin and hair color), people with dark hair (more melanin) have more success with this treatment than people with light hair.

Several treatments are needed (usually 6-8) to remove hair from the desired area. The time each session takes will depend on how big the hair removal area is.

Treatment can be expensive.

No, Laser hair removal is not a permanent solution to get rid of your body hair. But it can reduce the growth of hair after few sessions. It is better than other hair removal method like Waxing, Shaving, and plucking. You should consult a doctor who will determine what type of hair removal can be best for you.

5 Main Factors Laser Hair Removal is one of the newest technologies for eliminating that unwanted body hair. It is quick, easy and relatively painless. So, what's it going to cost?

Well, how laser hair removal is priced depends on a couple of factors:

1. Geographic Location. Of course, there are always going to be pricing variations due to geographic location. That's the case with just about any product or service. You will find that laser hair removal cost differ from state to state as well as from country to country.

2. Number of laser hair removal treatment sessions. This means, the number of laser hair removal treatments you are going to need to complete your desired hairless effect. The total number of laser hair removal treatment sessions can be affected by your hair color, your skin pigmentation (light or dark) and the thickness of your hair.
Light skin makes laser hair removal easier to perform. Fewer treatments are required, and better, faster results are obtained. People with darker skin can be treated, but results are slower, more sessions are required, and greater expertise is equired on the part of the laser center.
Some parts of the body are more difficult than others to remove hair. Each person varies somewhat in her or his hair regeneration speed as well.
Prior to your first laser hair removal treatment - in fact, prior to your deciding to undergo laser hair removal at all - you'll meet with the dermatologist or medical specialist responsible for the laser hair removal. Generally, the more sessions you require, the more it is going to cost you

3. Size of the area treated. Treatment cost varies with the size of the area treated. Large areas, such as the entire back, or the entire legs, cost considerably more than this. Small areas, such as the upper lip, can be less.

4. Type of laser hair removal equipment used. There are different types of laser hair removal equipment in the market. Also, do not confuse laser hair removal with intense pulsed light treatments. The latter can also produce effective hair removal. Although the devices used are not lasers, they are "laser equivalents". Both utilize the same principle of selective photothermolysis to achieve hair removal. Intense pulsed light devices are in fact more difficult to adjust than lasers and require great expertise for their proper use. Individual consultation with the laser center is necessary to obtain exact pricing.

5. Pricing packaging. Not only does the laser hair removal cost vary by area and by physician, but it can also vary in its pricing structure. Some, for example, bundle the laser hair removal treatment with other cosmetic procedures. For instance, some may include the application of a hair retardation product to the treatment area to speed up desired results. Some require you to pay a total package fee and yet others may charge you for each visit separately. Experienced laser centers, which have developed expertise in laser hair removal, costs an average of about $500 per treatment session. They usually recommend a basic four treatment sessions to start off with.

As treatment costs can get really expensive, you should ensure that you can well budget for it.
However, please be advised to go to an established medical center with good reputation. You may pay more but it may be worth the quality of service and care that you receive.
