I have oily skin and so my face is prone to acnes, and has acne hyper pigmentation. I wash my face with anti-acne face wash at least four time a day.I use lacto calamine lotion if i have to go out as it contains zinc solution, which i think is good for skin problems and also use pimples pen over pimples.I don't squeeze or touch pimples with my bare hands. But my problem starts during winter as my face also gets dry and chaped let alone new pimples eruption,so i use oil free moisturing cream. My queries are:
1.Am i doing right?
2.What is the best way to keep face pimple-free?
3.How can i get rid of chapped skin during winter without having extra skin eruption?
4.How can i get rid of my acne scars?
5.Is it okey to take steam?

I am very pleased that you are concious about acne problem. Most of the things you are doing are correct. yea lacto calamine does reduce acne and acne scars but sometimes, it may block the skin pores. I would repeat the preventive measures.

Keep your face a little dry, as oiliness is one of the major causes of pimples. But don't over dry as it again can block the pores.Wash your face with a normal soap every morning and evening.Use soap mainly on the upper half of the face, more precisely on the T-zone,which is on the forehead, nose and naso-labial folds.Do not use it excessively.

Avoid/reduce all oily creams, sunblocks, cosmetics and hair oils.Do not squeeze pimples which usually causes inflammation and later leaves scars.Let them dry gradually,it will take some time though. Its normal that during winter skin gets dry.So apply a moisturising lotion just on the dry spots.

Acne scars will get better with time.Topical retinoids can help in the scar healing. There seems to be no evidebce that taking steam helps acne. For light scarring Laser skin resurfacing is the most acceptable methods. For more deeper scars, chemical peel, dermabrasion, ablative laser CO2 resurfacing may be the better option.necessary. Several options like surgical excision and other are also available.

I can offer some advice on the dry skin. I also suffer from this condition especially in the winter, and at times irritation. Most people finds vaseline is sufficient to keep chapped moisturised but some people (by the sounds of it yourself) need something stronger. Contact your local pharmacy or doctor for e45 cream or fucibet, both good creams for dry and irritated skin.

Oily skin is considered the raw material for developing acne..but nothing to worry here buddy! You can get rid of your acne too, although it is rather a long term process. Try keeping yourself well hydrated and avoid any food that contains oil or fat. You are doing just fine because calamine lotion is considered as a good emollient for any types of scars..be it acne or sun burns.

To avoid chapped skin in winter, try applying unboiled milk instead of the usually moisturizing creams before going to bed. It is considered natural and safe.

Again, drink plenty of water and include fruit juice in your diet too.

Taking steam is OK in winters..but as you have said, you get chapped skin..so, try taking too much of it.

Acne usually heal with age and the scars can be corrected with proper medications for which you should contact your skin specialist.

You can get unsightly pimples due to two reasons. One is the impact of adolescence, the other reason is dead skin cells that refuse to shed and clog your pores, thereby not allowing the skin to breathe freely. In either case, the best solution for this problem is exfoliation. Make a mix of equal parts of olive oil and sugar and use this to scrub yourself in gentle circular motions all over your dampened body. Wash this off with herbal soap and warm water. Scrubbing in this fashion provides fresh and clean skin with open pores that help your body to evict toxins more effectively. Better circulation also helps to reduce oiliness of skin which is a major cause of acne. Make a face pack of dried and ground orange peels and yogurt and leave it on for about 30 minutes, or till it dries, and wash with water. Adding a few drops of lime juice to this mix will help in disinfecting your skin. If you have a large zit, you can make a thick paste of sandalwood powder and rose water and apply this to your zit. Leave it on till it dries and then repeat the process. This will take care of it fairly quickly. You can also make a mix of lime juice and black gram flour and apply this to your zit to remove it within a day or two.

Avinav,

Try cold-pressed rose hip oil. You can either mix it with your cream or mix it with aloe vera gel and use as a masque. It is very good for all sorts of scars including acne scars. Use this in conjunction with ingredient that promote a higher turnover of skin cells (skin regeneration).

Washing your face more than twice a day is the cause of the dryness your experiencing. When you wash your face so often, you are stripping your skins natural barrier (oils) and causing your skin to over compensate for the oil your washing off, so basically your skin becomes even more oily and is more prone to bacterial infection (acne). Use a good cleanser with salicylic acid to kill bacteria, I use thefoaming cleanser and benzoclear5 at vsskin.com for my acne, its gentle and wont dry you out. As far as scarring goes, I have found that chemical peels (TCA and Jessner) or laser treatment called "pixels" are most effetive and work for the dark spots acne leaves behind. For dry skin, you can take suppliments such as fish oil or flax seed oil twice daily, but also washing your face less will help a lot too! Dont use lacto calamine because its not "noncomedogenic" and will block your pores, ice your face 2 times daily to reduce inflammation and also if you feel your getting a breakout, it will help reduce the size of it.

Acne and pimples are products of accumulated oil and dirt. Always wash your face with water and mild soap or facial wash. Aside from keeping your face fresh, you can also get rid of the oil and dirt that could block your pores.

In removing your acne scars, you can try some creams available in the market. If you want to try some natural treatments, try fresh milk and citrus fruits. But it could take some time for the scars to lighten.

During winter, applying moisturizer on your face could help you avoid skin dryness. :)

Drink lots, and eat lots of fruit, that'll help keep your skin hydrated. I would've thought 4 times a day is excessive with facial wash, although if it's working for you then by all means keep going.

Try and keep to a healthy, fruit orientated diet, as this will help.

I found the best way to deal with zits and acne is to prevent them from popping out in the first place. Here is how I cleared my face of zits and prevented them from returning:

I washed my face and body every day with dial antibacterial soap. I was careful not to use a face cloth or rag on my face. I started using my hands to spread the soap and rinse my face and stopped using a rag on it. I started using a moisturizer at night to prevent the anti-bacterial soap I was using from drying my skin out. I stopped eating greasy foods like French fries and potato chips. All fried foods became the enemy. Green, leafy vegetables became my friends. I stopped drinking soda pop and added more water to my diet (6 to 8 glasses a day).
The hardest part was giving up Chocolates and candy, but I knew if I wanted my face zit free, junk food was out. Changing my diet worked two-fold. It helped eliminate the zit problem and helped to keep the weight down. The better I looked, the more confident and content I became which helped to keep the stress down. Now, at age 52, I no longer panic if I get a Zit. I just drag out the alcohol and my trustworthy make up kit. First, I dab it with alcohol, then I cover it with the stick!

Avoid lactocalamine. Also avoid pimple pen. They can aggravate acne.
Take lots of water, exercise, take natural vitamins from raw vegetables & fruits.
Apply OTC acne creams as mentioned above by others.
Seek advise from Dermatologist if it still worsens.

Following are excellent and wonderful home treatment of acne or pimple scars using ingredients from your kitchen.
*Cut the tomato in half and rub on the skin. Leave on for fifteen minutes. Wash it off with water. This will reduce open pores and blackheads. This treatment is good particularly for oily skin.
*Rub ice cubes on the face 10=-15 minutes. It will tighten the pores.

Apply a mixture of turmeric and neem on the face to get rid of pimples.
- Your skin needs frequent cleansing to ensure that the pores are not clogged. Use a gentle cleanser at least 2-3 times a day. Applying a good pimple-free cream at night.

best is you should go for glycolic peel and you should avoid using moisturising or any oil based product. whatever you use should be oil free this will prevent pimples. with luke warm honey massage your face for 2 mins and wash off.this will wok as a moisturiser and you will not get pimples.

I agree. Avoid oily food!! and drink lots of water and take Vit.C and E.

Also, Natural Peeling from Valence is awesome!!
I have been using their US$12.99 acne and purification set for over 6 months.
I love how smooth and soft my skin feels every time I use the N. peeling (once a week).

The original set is a bit too expensive since I am really broke right now... but sample set is affordable and it works the same so its perfect for me:-)

is lacto calamine effective in curing pimples on dry skin?

There are instances where all the diligence in the world doesn’t stop scarring. When you’re seeking treatment for getting rid of acne scars, you should look at all the options, their benefits and restrictions. The ways to remove acne scars can be expensive, and not all treatments have equally satisfactory results.

Acne Scar Creams - The most economical approach but one that has widely varied personal results. Some creams have ingredients that irritate the skin more, and can contribute to scarring as a result. Others simply serve to tone and smooth skin, or have nutrients to improve skin heath.

Chemical facials - A chemical facial costs about $700. The process includes applying a acid blend to the face and letting it sit. This removes skin, and gives the face a softer, smoother appearance.

Dermabrasion - This is one of the more costly options for getting rid of acne scars, with a price tag going up to $2,000 each visit. In this case, the first layer of skin is taken off after numbing. It will take time to recover from this method, and for many people the results are not permanent.

Laser Treatment - Lasers can be used to remove the upper layer of skin so the face seems smoother. Nonetheless like Dermabrasion the scars may return, and the cost is even higher ($2,500).

Other Methods - There are other ways to remove acne scars using Punch treatments or Subcision. Both of these methods can be very costly, and run a higher chance of infection. They are not usually recommended.

For many months my skin acne scares progressively got worse. I tried 20+ lotions, but most of them gave me zits, I even went on a prescription for a month for acne treatment (I hated it). Now I am fed up to take any further acne medication that is why I started using natural home remedy which has finally worked- you can try this.“Apply Aloe vera gel on the red & swelling spots. Its has a great role in natural acne treatment.

NATURAL TREATMENT

Fruit is one of the best acne treatments. Choose mango, pawpaw, grapefruit or a fruit that has lots of acid. You can apply the fruit directly to your skin or you can use it to make a mask by mashing it into a pulp. You can add oatmeal or egg yolk if you want. Apply it to the skin as a mask and leave for fifteen minutes.

I am now 40 and I had demabrasion done about 15 years ago for acne scaring. Made some difference but for the pain involved during healing I wouldn't recommend it.
About 6 months ago I added a very mild glycolic peel, Retin A, Rosehip oil and shea butter, into my routine. Introduced each slowly to check my skin didn't react to them and I can't believe the difference they have made. My scaring was quite bad but is now hardly noticeable and generally my skin is smoother and brighter.
I would limit washing your face to twice a day and if you use any sort of facecloth (to pat the skin, not rub) then I would use it for one wash only, plus your towel if acne is that bad. Its also worth looking at the washing powder you use for your towels, pillows, etc.

I had a cut-like split on the edge of my nostril that would not heal with numerous other products for over 9 months. I tried hydrocortione cream which usually works well on blemishes; I tried other agressive lotions, including ones with alpha-hydroxy. None of these worked. When I discovered Dr Max Powers SCAR SERUM, it worked within a couple of weeks, completely healed the split back to totally normal. You need to be patient for whatever number of days that the skin still has a peel-able layer. Eventually it will completely smooth out. My experience reflects what "The Lil Scar that Could" says, that it works for healing and preventing a scar more so than getting rid of an existing scar. I believe it can work to improve existing scars, if not remove them, especially if one if persistant. This serum goes a LONG way on small cuts or blemishes that can create a scar if left untreated.

Acne is very difficult to deal with and the scars that acne caused can be quite a frustrating and embarrassing problem for any one.

How to heal acne scars? Laser treatment can be helpful for eliminating embarrassing acne scars. But, not everyone can afford to have a laser treatment, so here is the good news for you. There are many ways to remove acne scars.

Hey I know your concerns but most of the things you are doing is correct. Just try to use more moisturising in winter time.

Just some facts on what acne is:
Acne starts with a basic infection: blackheads or pimples. They appear due to the enlargement of pores that are covered by grease, dead skin cells or bacteria. Invisible to the naked eye, the pimple prowls under the skin surface, waiting for the right moment to grow and become an infection. While the skin keeps producing grease, bacteria blossoms inside the inflamed pore. The skin surrounding the area expands the inflammation until white blood cells start fighting the intruding bacteria.
Even though pimples are essentially born the same way, they may take different forms and react differently according to the person who has them

Dr.Saiyan

As their are many methods of scar removal such as lasers, retinoids etc but the new one one keeps on following which may be more frustrating. So for the preventing the new one to appear along with proper cleansing 2-3 times daily with PH balanced facewash(especially for one having oily skin) and selecting diet rich in fruits and vegetables along with plenty of water , i guess having regular hours of sleep avoiding the late night sleep, taking food timely, avoiding to much stress and having regular exercise to build good immunity can help get rid of acne to large extent.

I used to breakout like crazy in my teen years. I tried everything even proactiv which for me did not work. My skin was just too oily. But in my early 20's the only method that worked for me was going to a dermatologist and doing several treatments of microdermabrasion, glycolic acid peel and blue light treatment. And the result....didn't breakout and all my deep acne scars slowly disappeared and finally saw a more clean and fresh and even toned face. :)

What is your diet like: are you eating plenty of fruit, veg, oily fish and wholegrains or too much sugary, fatty processed foods? Some nutrients reduce inflammation and help the skin to repair while others may increase the problem.

Vitamin E is great for your scars. I've been using a 3 step system I LOVE for a lil over a week now and it has vitamin A,C & E. Which are the most important vitamins for your skincare. What type of system do you use? Maybe you need to try something different if what your using is not working. Before using this system I had tried EVERYTHING under the books prior to this and my skin is just so sensitive that everything would break it out even worse. It was like literally overnight, my husband asked me what I was doing different with my skin because it looked so smooth and good for the first time in a long time!! Like you, I too have a few scars but they are literally fading away. If you want more information let me know and I can get you it on the product its seriously amazing.

The main ways that I have discovered through 4 months of research is a)insert something (usually fat) below the scar to raise it up, or b) remove the skin's top layer around the scar to smooth it down, or c) a combination of both. There is a page that deals with acne scars here, and another page that talks about a wonderful acne treatment here. Best of luck with it.

Using essential oil will naturally reduce acne problems. Oils like lavender, Neroli, sandalwood, Helichrysum , frankincense, tea tree oil are used to treat acne problems. These oils are known for its antiseptic properties. Use of any essential oil with carrier oil will help you get rid of acne. Lavender oil is the most commonly used oil . As compared with others Lavender oil is cheaper. Hence using this oil will help you reduce acne.

Completely getting rid of acne scars takes a long time. Getting rid of scars isn't very easy.

Squeezing or picking at acne can damage the skin tissue around the acne. This can lead to the scarring that is such a concern for many people.

If the nature of your scars is mild to moderate, then home remedies are sufficient. There are many lotions based on alpha hydroxyl acid and retinol. These lotions are very effective for the treatment of the acne scars. it also depends on the type of your skin. If you have a sensitive skin type, it will be better not to use lotions based on the above ingredients. They can harm sensitive skin. There is a specific range of medications to treat people who can not undergo retinol and alpha acid treatments. The most effective among them are lavender oil, aloe vera juice and rosehip seed oil. They can heal scars without harming the skin in the long run.

I suggest trying aloe vera juice and putting that on your face at night where the scars are.

Also, try lemon juice.
To use the lemon juice treatment to remove your acne scar you will need to first wash your face with warm water. Then pour some lemon juice on a cotton ball, and then gently rub the effected acne mark area. For best results leave the lemon juice on your face for about 10 minutes and then dry the affected acne scar area.

To start seeing results with the lemon juice it can take anywhere from one day and even up to three months. Results will vary depending on the seriousness of the acne problem.

Another big factor in reducing or getting rid of acne scars is that you will also need to watch the kind of oils you are putting into your body. Some oils that you use is just screaming acne come and get me!

One of the most common forms of vegetable oil is the sunflower oil. It is highly recommended that if you are using such oils in your cooking then you should consider stop using them to cook as it will only increase the risk of more acne break outs.

By avoiding the use of vegetable oils in your cooking, it has been reported that it can be one of the leading factors in clearing up your acne by 50%. Even in sever cases it has been said that that people who stopped using such vegetable oils, have been completely relieved of any future acne outbreaks.

Ready to hear this? Believe it or not by drinking more than the recommended 8 glasses of water daily will immediately begin to see results with getting rid of your acne scars. If you are a severe acne suffer you should stay away from carbonated drinks, and caffeine drinks such as coffee, and sodas.

Drink lots of water.
Try using minimal make up, and always wash it off before going to bed.
Drink 1 glass of hot water mixed with one teaspoon honey and 3 tablespoons lime juice every morning.
Use a mild soap and warm water tandem.
Don't Over clean because it is destructive to the skin’s function because it strips away the natural oils and disrupts the protective layer results in dryness and irritations.
Wash or change your pillow cases weekly.
Low sugar diet.
Exercise daily for at least 20 minutes and practice yoga and meditation.
Regular moisturising helps to regulate the blood circulation.
Have a diet rich in vitamin A, vitamin E, niacin and zinc.
Reduce the amount of salt in your daily diet.
Have enough rest and sleep for 8 hours.
Don't eat food that are oily or fried.

Wow seems like a hot topic on Acne!
Actually I do agree with the vitamin E intake. I took for about 3 months and I noticed that my skin is getting better!
Apart from this, I do go for facial - those deep cleansing with mask, once a month at least.

For acne scar, hmm, this takes a little longer and I cannot go to my normal facial place (Orchard) as they do not have the equipment.
I went to Radium Medical Aesthetics at Suntec City to try their ECO2 SKIN RESURFACING and I can see the result after 2 sessions. I think I will continue with this.
