The Truth Behind Syringoma Removal

Syringoma are harmless small skin-colored or yellowish, firm rounded dermal papules or cyst which are multiple and smaller then 3 mm in diameter. They usually starts in young age and sometimes other family members may also have been affected, but family history is rare. They are more common in women then men. Although most of the lesions are limited to the upper parts of the cheeks and lower eyelids, other common sites include the armpits, abdomen, upper chest, penis, and vulva.

Clinically, syringoma are often confused with milia, sebaceous hyperplasia, lichen planus, eruptive xanthoma, urticaria pigmentosa, or  acne vulgaris or even basal cell skin cancer. So definitive diagnosis is needed with histological examination of the lesion. The characteristic appeareance of skin biopsy under a microscope is used to diagnose it.

Treatment of Syringoma is for cosmetic purpose only as these lesion do not harm. But syringomas of the eyelids and cheeks are often frustrating. Most of the literature suggests using carbon dioxide laser. But no comparative studies and no long-term follow-up studies are available on which to base definitive recommendations for treatment.  Some other  treatment options includes  Surgical excision with  suturing, dermabrasion, electrocautery , Electrodesiccation and curettage, cryosurgery, chemical peeling and oral and topical retinoids. But none of this methods are 100% satisfactory.

There are some reports of successful treatment with carbon dioxide laser for facial syringomas. A  report on dermatology online journal suggests the use of topical atropine to alleviate the pruritus in symptomatic eruptive syringoma. Unfortunately, there is no any standard treatment for widespread syringomas and all surgical treatments might result in scarring. There are many Over the counter medications sold on net that claims to remove syringoma but many unsuccessful results with scar formations are reported so be sure to use at your own risk. As these are harmless lesions so they can be just left if it doesn’t cause you worries.

There are no any proven home remedies for syringoma they have to be treated with special medical procedure so consult your dermatologist before trying to treat yourself. It can also be another disorder resembling like syringoma and may be associated with systemic problems.

  10. irish says:

hi i have syringoma under my eyes and the derma suggests CO2 laser because it will get the root of the syringoma unlike with cautery it will only burn the embossed part that is visible but syringomas will still come back on both treatments however with CO2 it will take about 2-3 months before the syringoma will come back….. it its not bothering you too much leave it as it is. I have friend who had a cautery and co2 laser from famous derma but syringoma still comes back even more!!!!! wooo…. scary

  11. has anyone tried the wart remover? I’d like to know how it works !

  12. vanessa says:

hello, i want to know if nevexin and molewart vanish works? im scared to have a electrocautery, from what i was told it would take 4 to 5 days to heal, and there’s no gaurantee that the syringoma will never appear again and the worst case scenario, it might multiply.

i also want to know how expensive is CO2 laser?

Vanessa: Price of Co2 lasers might depend on specialist hand. ranging from $500-$3000

  14. daisy says:

Has anyone tried the wart vanish cream on syringomas? It seems that the skin around the eyes is so sensitive.. I’m afraid to try anything so harsh. I’m wondering if anyone has had success with this method of removing syringomas from under the eyes ( cheaper than Co2 treatments ! )

  15. Anthony says:

I had syringomas above my eyelid. A very big one on the corner of my left eyelid and then 2-3 clusters underneath the eyebrows on both eyelids. I went to a dermatologist and she used electro-cautery to remove them. She charged me $150 for the removal of 3. I paid about $450 to have 10 of them removed. The only problem, they came back after 3 months.

I then purchased the mole wart vanishing cream from Pristine herbal for $79.95 about 3 months ago and I can safely say that it works. The cream stings but the syringomas fell off after about a week. It did leave my skin red but the blemish disappeared after 45 days.

My only complaint is that I wish the container would have included more of the cream. You get a very small amount for what you pay for and that will be good for the removal of about 10-15 syringomas. The rest of the box comes with stuff like toothpicks, plastic applicators, and a very sharp needle.

  18. c childs says:

I have lots of really tiny bumps under my eyes. Went to a dermatologist and she said it was syringoma. She electricuted a few of them with a needle but it created redness and then a scab after a week. Once the scab has gone they were still there. She advised against laser, and said that maybe a chemical peel would work. She also perscribed me some vitamin A cream i think it was, but she messed the perscription up so i never ended up getting it. Not suer how good she was Im thinking of going to another. Where I have these syringoma I also have darkness as well, not sure if this is linked.

  19. Monica says:

I’ve had Syringoma on my belly for years and now it’s under my arms & on my face it’s hurts so bad to look in the mirror. My dermotologist told me that’s nothing that can get rid of it because no matter who you insurance is they din’t care that I have syringoma they din’t care that it depresses me and makes mme so self confident when people look at me it seem like that’s all they see because that’s all I see there are so many of them I cant take it.I even scratched the ones under my eye just kept scaratching I just want them gone. Please if there is any way to get them off.

  20. karmen says:

Yeah I have clusters of deep syringomas under and above my eye. I’ve tried multiple things like electric needles (which caused the skin to be dark brownish for around a week and HURT) and also went to a laser skin center and they did a series of procedures on me including chemical peels, pixel and laser treatments but they still come back. The first time i did the treatment my eyes swelled up and were puffy for a whole week. I really don’t know what will get rid of them.

  21. MR says:

I also suffer from Syringomas and it is definitely detrimental to your self confidence. About four years ago I visited a dermatologist to get them removed and he used electrocautery. He treated multiple at a time (which I don’t recommend because you will have multiple scabs at the same time making you look weird, especially if the syringoma is on your eye lid as was my case) and the procedure was quick (not expensive). I wish he would have been more precise with while “zapping” them, but that’s a different story. Basically what happened is that I developed scars where he zapped and after about a week and half they fell. What is left once the scab falls is discoloration. To this day those spots are white compared to my normal skin color (fair to light). You can spot them, but they are not that visible and they can be masked with make-up/eye shadow. The good thing is that the spots are even with the rest of my skin and not protruding as before. They have not come back where they were before, but I do have new ones that have surfaced. There is a specific one under my left eye that is pretty big and I’m dying to get rid of it! I’m visiting my dermatologist (different then the one that removed them first) to see what my options are. I am probably leaning towards the same method because it was inexpensive and fast. I’m intereseted in carbon dioxide laser, but it seems that it’s so expensive and I’m not familiar with the results. Once I visit with the derm, I’ll post the results up to provide some insight to the rest of you.

  22. J.Smith says:

Wow, Im surprised at all the people afflicted with what I have, I thought I was the only one. Anyways I’ve had electrocautery and laser, they both sucked, they are costly, and procedures are embarassing for most so Ive decided to buy my own hyfrecator, because it looked easy enough and I personnaly think I could of did a better job than the doctors. So thats my opinion. What say you?

  23. larkspur says:

I recommend consulting a Classical Hahnemannian Homeopath. Syringomas have been known to resorb under Homeopathic treatment, (gently, imperceptibly over a couple of months) but don’t go to one of the fly by nights out there.

If the syringomas don’t go as quickly as you would like, and you choose not to continue, you will at least have given your immune system a huge boost.

On another site i read of a woman who had used Mole Wart. She said it removed the syringoma but turned her skin rough and red and she wanted her syringoma back. She then tried Curad Scar Treatment “band aids” and found them effective and comforting. Skin is fine now.

If you’re anything like my friends with syringoma, you’re the nicest people in the world.

  24. ems says:

i have also syringoma,i want to go to the derma but im afraid to the result, after the medication what the result came, maybe it will become worst not my syringoma

  27. jassi says:

hi i have syrigoma in my eyes i want to remove.. plz give me treatment……..

  28. jackie says:

I had my Syringoma removed with a laser. It HURT. It created scabs on my face which took about 2weeks to fall off, very noticeable. I now have some scarring and the skin is lighter in those spots. My Syringoma has came back but not on the scarred areas. I was told that this type of condition will always come back. SO frustrating.

  29. michael says:

I have read all of your comments and I to have syringoma all round both eyes and getting worst as I get older. It runs in the family my sister and mother both have them. As a male I can’t cover them up with makeup! It sucks! You might as well have herpes it doesn’t go way either but at least you can suppress and treat herpes! It’s a shame the medical world -doctors don’t care about our condition and don’t see it has a treating condition. I’m on 5 days straight looking online for an effective treatment to no avail. But if I decide to do the laser surgery I found the latest laser out there is SmartXide DOT laser therapy represents the marriage of CO2 laser ablation and fractional skin resurfacing. Greatly diminished recovery time and much less discomfort. Used for numerous dermatological lesions including syringoma. Let’s pray it rids syringoma for GOOD!!!

I visited two dermatologists who are highly respected and both told me there is nothing I can do about it! That’s so depressing! I can’t believe it!
