There are several lasers that are being used to treat freckles. These include Q-switched Nd: YAG lasers, Q-switched Ruby lasers and Q-switched alexandrite lasers. These lasers have shown high successive rate with low risk of scarring or skin discoloration.

How Does Laser Freckle Removal Works?
The initial procedure starts with local anesthetics applied 30-60 minutes before treatment. Then the laser light is transmitted over the target area to be treated. After the laser light is absorbed, these high power short pulse of energy heats and breaks the melanin and removes it. Some may find little discomfort during the procedure.

After the procedure, antibiotic ointment may be applied locally and applied until the lesion heals followed by strict sunscreen use to prevent post inflammatory hyper pigmentation. Clinical improvement of the freckle may be seen after 4-8 weeks. If there is no satisfactory improvement in the lesion, repeated session of laser therapy may be needed at 4-6 weeks interval.

Side effects of laser freckle removal
Usually, side effects are minimum and temporary which improves within few days to weeks. There may be light swelling, bruising or redness in the treated site, serious complications are very rare.

Laser freckle removal can permanently treat your freckle, but it’s not a permanent cure for your freckle. If your freckle is hereditary you may have new freckles coming and sun exposure makes it worse. To avoid further freckles and pigmentation follow the following suggestions.

  • Always use sunscreen with SPF at least 15 through out the year.
  • Wear wide-brimmed hats while on the sun.
  • Avoid peak sun hours from 10 am to 4 pm. Try to find some shade and stay indoors during these hours.
  • Wear sun protective clothing like long sleeves, shirts and pants.

Cost of Laser Freckle Removal
The cost of laser freckle removal may vary depending on several factors like your city area, the laser surgeon, number of area to be treated, number of treatment session required and other. So it is hard to predict the actual cost. Usually the cost of laser freckle removal in Asia is cheaper then Europe, US or Canada. But again depends upon the individual laser surgeon. Usually it may range from $100-$300 in India to $250- $1500 in US. Then again it would depend on the number of area to be treated.

  1. I know that Laser can remove these Freckle. However, before you try this method, you should try other safer treatment, like using anti Freckle cream or prescription product from your dermatologist.

    I have some freckles on my face which was developed recently, before 2 years my skin was very clear and i got many compliments for that, now i feel my look is very bad because of these brown spots on my face, and it not only affect on my confidence also i cant do my daily works , at last i visit a dermatologist he told me there is not creams available to fade freckles safely, the only way is performing IPL or laser treatment(i am in india, cochin).
    but i heard some side effect of laser or ipl treatments, is these type of side effect will occur in freckle removing treatment by using IPL or laser pls help me I’m totally upset.
