i had backne for a long time. my hair was causing it. i guess it was what i was using on my hair at the time or i didn't rinse my back well after i washed my hair. i have long hair and i would get oily skin on my back. i now exfolliate with a netting scrub gently and i rinse my hair and then clean my back again in the shower. i no longer have backne. there are some cleansers out there just for you back. i am afraid you will have to google them because i can't remember the names. best of luck. make sure you rinse your back after you wash your hair.

You can use any body wash that specifically for bacne.

Here are the products that I have tried:
Proactiv Deep Cleansing Wash.
PanOxyl Acne Foaming Wash 10% Benzoyl Peroxide.
Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash.
Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash.

Two out of four products on this list can be expensive [Proactiv and Dermalogica]. All of these products from the list work wonder for me. If you are on a budget, I would recommend you to use the Neutrogena or the PanOxy. Both of them are cheap and work as well as the other expensive products.

Back acnee is also present on people with a low or with no sexual activity.
I know, there are a lot of people who say that is just a myth but ... is not really just a myth. I know people who had this problem and the their acne was gone when they had start their sexual life.

Like all of the other forms of acne, there is no one thing that causes back acne. As far as the medical community stands, back acne also happens when oil glands start functioning more rapidly around puberty. The hormone group androgens, found in both females and males, get overactive which in turn causes a reaction in the oil glands, which make extra oil. The oil glands are located just underneath the skin surface. Oil glands constantly are producing and secreting oil through the pores in the skin. When too much of the oils are produced the pores and hair follicles become clogged. The clogs obstruct the way that dead cells escape the skin, which in turn results in a mess of oil and dead cells plugging the hair follicle. This attracts bacterium, which causes the acne to be formed.

As with any type of acne, the exact cause of body acne remains unknown. However, we do know that irritation can make it worse. Anything that rubs against your skin can cause irritation. Damp, sweaty clothing combined with irritation tends to further aggravate acne.

Wear breathable cotton clothing when possible. If you get sweaty, try to change your clothing when you can.

Time your workouts so that you can shower and treat your skin using the Body Regimen afterward.

Generally try to be aware of what might be irritating your skin in areas where you break out regularly and make changes where you can.

I've had back acne for years but I alwasy get a little bit more of a breakout during the summer time. So i have to remember to scrub or wash my back a little more during this time to prevent dirt build up.

As many oil glands are concentrated in the areas like face, chest, upper arms and back.Over activity of the oil glands and blocking of the opening of the duct of oil gland by dirt can also easily cause acne so still most important thing is just regular cleaning with mild soap . In summer wearing soft, light color loose fitting clothing that can allows the air to circulate though skin and absorb the sweat easily can help to get rid of many skin problems .

Hi Saiyan, you are absolutely right. Tight clothes that touch the body should be avoided when you are suffering from back acne.

I was prescribed a topical antibiotic solution that helped with my back acne. It is called Clindamycin and I use it in place of a toner. The acne is not gone - I still have clogged pores - but they don't become full-blown pimples unless I touch my back a lot.

I also started using a sulfur soap called Grandpa's Thylox Acne Treatment Soap with Sulfur. I ordered it on drugstore.com and have been pleased with it. Some people hate the smell of sulfur soap, but it doesn't bother me (hopefully I don't smell like it all day though!).

Causes of back acne

No one is certain of the cause of acne. We do know that maturation of oil glands is required. This is why we see back acne only after puberty begins. Beyond this, what leads to back acne is similar to what leads to facial acne. For some reason, acne prone individuals tend to overproduce skin cells inside of their pores which stick together and ultimately create a zit.

When speaking about back acne in particular, a particular form of acne called acne mechanica deserves mention. Acne mechanica is a fancy name for acne which is caused by irritation of the skin. Anything that repeatedly rubs against the skin, such as backpacks, rough massages, tight fitting clothing, weight lifting machines which press on the shoulder area, or anything else that rubs the back area and irritates the skin can aggravate acne in that area. Acne mechanica tends to be aggravated by moisture, so if you’re sweaty and combine that with the repeated rubbing that comes with your backpack, clothing, etc., that could make the problem worse. By simply existing as a human being, your back is going to be in contact with chairs, clothing, beds, and other people’s touch so no one will be able to remove all irritation of the skin of the back. Still, there are some simple ways you can help the situation.
