I have a terrible cold today so I was forced to take some vitamin C and echinecea. I don't always take vitamins daily because I feel that I don't really need them. The only supplent I need to have is the one for my skin with a combination of vitamins A, C, E, and zinc.

WHat about you guys, do you take any supplements daily? What are they?

I was always told to take my vitamins everyday but I am quite hard headed and I don't take any supplements at all. I guess that's why I easily catch cold but I always forget to drink my vitamins. :(

Has anyone here taken the OTC zinc products that are supposed to lessen the severity of colds and also the duration? I wonder if these products really work like they say that they do. I got some Airborne and that stuff was nasty to say the least! I could not tell that it did anything for me at all.

I am taking vitamins daily and it works really well. It is quite expensive but it is worth it. I want to pamper myself in order to stay as healthy as I can be.

I take vitamins as well but feel that we still get way more benefits if we can eat fruits and veggies that are high in vitamin C and other vitamins and minerals that we need. I eat a lot of bananas for the potassium and magnesium in them. Apples, or any type of citrus fruit is a great source of Vitamin C

To add, even though we eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables we still cannot meet the recommended daily allowance per day. That is why we need supplementation to aid the lacking vitamins and minerals needed by our body. It is also good to buy supplements which are tested and proven to really contain what is in the label.

Oh I didn't know echinecea can be taken every day! It's really good for fighting a cold. When I feel the sniffles coming, I immediately take 2 tablets for a day or two. It really works because my colds never come. But sometimes when I'm a day late and I already have colds, then it's totally useless. :( I'll take it every now and then now that I know it's safe to take it every day. :)

Very true. We're supposed to eat 5 types of fruit and 3 types of vegetables (or vice versa) in a day. I read an article in the magazine before with a drawing of the recommended daily intake for fruits and veggies. Surprisingly, the fruits and vegetables we need every day piled up is taller than a young child!!! It really stunned me. Which is why many pharmaceutical companies have started producing supplements for our fruits and veggies. :( I never bought one though because I feel healthy even without eating enough fruits and veggies.

Be very careful about taking ecchinecea if you have any types of respiratory problem such as allergies, sinusitis, or are prone to having any kind of asthma attacks as it can exacerbate those problems. I had a bad reaction to it due to the fact I was unaware of this.

So better to be safe than sorry. No herbs are completely safe for anyone. They can have side effects just like medication. It is good to do research on any type of supplement before you take it

I take pre-natal vitamins on a daily basis. I have a three month old and now I am nursing, so I need them to keep up my health. We are also trying for number three already, so it is important to keep up my vitamin intake.

Golden Seal is good to take when you have a cold, but it should not be taken for more than two weeks at a time. Echinacae is good for those with weak immune systems. My eight year old takes it daily. He contracted bacterial pneumonia when he was almost four and we struggle with colds now. He is very susceptible. I keep him home from church if he even looks like he is weak and I homeschool to keep him protected.

I take a multivitamin (centrum)every day, plus 1000 mg of flax seed oil as well as varying amounts of cod liver oil.

It's a bit complicated but it keeps me healthy!

I take vitamin C and multivitamins daily. By doing this my immune system gets boosted. We all know that sickness prevention is better than cure.

The 5 a day was brought in by the World Health Organisation in 2003, but now research states that this should be classed as a minimum.. the only reason for the '5' was that it was seen to be an attainable target to reach for people.. but the suggestion is that now we should aim for more than that to provide adequate benefits.

Since I started weightwatchers (sorry for mentioning it), I have noticed that I don;'t need vitamins as what I am eating is packed in them anyway & am attaining a more reasonable goal of eating fruit & veg daily.

I don't see an issue with taking vitmains, but I prefer the natural route :D

No I dont take any, because that I do believe that we can get vitamins from the foods that we eat and If we eat right then I think there is no reason to worry about. Also I dont want to rely on medicine or any supplements but instead have it done naturally.

If you eat, milk, egg, fruits and vegetables in your daily food daily you will be taking vitamins in the natural form instead of tablets form. so, it is advisable to take green leafy vegetables and vegetables like carrot, beet root is essential in your food

Vitamins are important to our health. The doctors also said taking vitamins is a healthy choice. So I am taking vitamins regularly. I am not taking vitamin capsules. I take only fruits and vegetables. Lot of fruits & vegetables contains vitamin a, c and e.

Some Examples:

Vitamin C (Fruits): oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, lemons and limes, kiwis, strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, watermelon, guava and papaya.

Vitamin C (Vegetables): dark green leafy vegetables, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, celery, bell peppers and Brussels sprouts.

Vitamin E (Fruits): berries, avocado, tomatoes, pomegranate, pumpkin, kiwi, mango, papaya and guava.

Vitamin E (Vegetables): corn, asparagus sweet potato, broccoli and dark green leafy vegetables

I haven't heard or seen it either but I can guarantee it isn't up in the north. Perhaps we could order a sample online, it does seem to be worth trying.

Well I dont take any supplements daily because I dont want to rely my health to any of those. I just eat what I think is right like fruits and vegetables and so and so. Perhaps it would be better to do things in a natural way.

It is difficult in some areas to get fresh fruits and vegetables so it is important to take supplements. If people don't they just don't get the vitamins and minerals they need for good health year round.

I have started taking multi-vitamins daily now, in tablet form. Mostly, because they contain iron, which is what us women need more of, especially 'round the time of the month.
I don't see any harm in it, at the end of the day it's a choice, they're on our shop shelves, but this doesn't mean we have to take them.

Though I have also been curious as to whether difference in brands and price matters, are some 'better' than others? hmmm.
