If you scrub your hair like you’re rubbing a spot out of a carpet, you may be doing more harm than good. It is because hair is more elastic and prone to breaking when it’s wet. On the other hand, if you just pour shampoo on your crown and quickly rinse, you may not be washing away the built-up styling products and natural oils that weigh hair down and leave it flat and lifeless.

Instead, try this technique.

Brush your hair before you get into the shower to detangle knots and loosen any debris that may be trapped in the strands. Wet hair thoroughly with luke warm water. Then massage the shampoo into your scalp with your fingertips in circular motions for 2 to 3 minutes. Do not forget the nape of your neck and sides of your head, 2 easy-to-miss spots. When the leather builds up, gently smooth it down the hair shaft. Rinse well, but do not repeat. Unless your scalp is really oily or you only shampoo once a week, a single wash is enough.

i wan't to add some conditioning tips :)

- don't put conditioner on your scalp. its for hair, not scalp!
- don't leave conditioner on too long, it'll make your hair dull!
- use a conditioner that's lightweight and fortifying.

Aliva... I said this in another post but will say it again here: I really need to change the way in which I take care of my hair. I'm going to put the tips that I've found on this forum to work for me. Thank you!

When I wash my hair, I only use the tips of my fingers to massage it and not scratch using my fingernails. This is what I was taught when I was a child and it's what I do until now.

I started trying to use my fingers last night but since I have long nails it's hard to do. Does anyone know if those plastic brushes they use for washing your hair are any good?
